KWorld 4 port card
KWorld 4 port card
KWorld KW-SEC400A works great. Uses bttv driver.
The 8 port version of this card works too but so far I can only access the first 4 ports.

Well, on both the 4 and the 8 port - I only see one video device, "/dev/video0". I use channels 0-3 for the first 4 ports and they work great. On the 8 port card I've tried using channels 4-7 but no luck.zoneminder wrote:I don't know this card at all but have you tried using channel 1 on /dev/video0-3 for the last four ports? This is how it works on other 8 port cards.
Phil,
(I should mention these two different cards are in two different machines. Running Mandrake from the live CD)
For anyone interested, www.computergeeks.com cary these cards off and on. If they're out of them when you check - Check back later because they get them in often.
If the picture is accurate on the compgeeks site:

I suspect that you will have a difficult time getting ports 5-8 to work. It appears that this card only has 1 BT878 chip. The chip has 4 inputs, and that's how manufacturers implement 4 ports using only one chip. If they are using only 1 chip with 8 ports, they are implementing their own proprietary switching, with 2 channels going to each input.

kworld vs grandXGuard
Is that card more performant than the GrandXguard or is it basically the same thing ?
it seems like they both have just 1 chip, but from the specs, it seem like the KWorld gets better fps, does it have better switching ?
Any info on the card performance vs the other ?
Thanks

Kworld
I am using the 8 port Kworld card, and I also am limited to 4 cameras. Just adding a data point.
Re: Kworld
did you have any problems with frame rates and camera image quality? I had one B/W camera connected( port 0 ) and created 4 monitors with the fsp set to 5.0 maximum. All I could get ZM to show for that one camera was a white window with the time ticking away. Only when I dropped the 3 unused monitors fps down to 1-2fps each did the video from the camera show up.itsthemedication wrote:I am using the 8 port Kworld card, and I also am limited to 4 cameras. also, what frame rates are you getting across the 4 camera and what are their specs( resolutions, color or B/W, etc ). Thanks.

Sorry for the delayed response...
I ended up using two cameras - I slowed them down to 5 fps although a one point they were doing fine at 30 fps. I never tried with 4 cameras (I just tested all the ports one by one). I was using Panasonic CCTV, color, fixed (WV-CS854). Never felt like I was stressing the capture card, but instead thought I might be pushing the very lame built-in video S3 graphics adapter. Am going to install a better graphics card in the machine and then I will hook up four cameras and try for 4 at 30fps. I'll let you know...
i just picked up this card ( 4 port ) and i can not ge a color signal in. do you guys get color?

i just got the 4-port K-world security card as well. I'm trying to use card=77 and card=78 but i only get blue images in xawtv.
I'm basically getting the same as this guy:
http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... light=bttv
My card box says it's a K-world 4-port but my card matches the lspci output from this guy (3rd post):
http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... lspci+109e
what card/tuner type did you use to get a picture. I'd by happy with ANY picture at this point.....

Are you using the LiveCD? Also, I'm not sure what you mean by, "card=77"johabba wrote:i just got the 4-port K-world security card as well. I'm trying to use card=77 and card=78 but i only get blue images in xawtv.

I tried the liveCD/MandrivaCD for 1.21.4. I have also tried debian sarge and windows with the application that comes with the card. All I get is blue screen.
mpoertner:
- what distro are you using? did you have to make _ANY_ changes to get the card to work?
- what is the output of 'dmesg'?
- what is the output of 'cat /proc/interrupts'?
- what is the output of 'lsmod'?
- by 'card=77' i meant the card= value that I have been playing trying to gey my card to show a picture. Do you have any card= values in your /etc/modprobe.conf (or other module option file?)?
I am really desparate to get this card working. I only bought it because others in this forum said it and the 8-port variant works with linux.
other knowledgeable zoneminder users:
- does the blue screen mean the card is working and the camera is the prob?
- i'm worried that it doesn't even give me a picture in windoze. anyone else try this card? please tell how you got it to work.

dont want to damage your spitits but if you have tried it it windows with the sodtware etc id be looking to dens it back.
Blue screen means nothing apart from linux has recognised a device on the path you specifies, whether its working or not it doesnt know

I get a blue screen when there is no camera connected to the input. Perhaps your camera is no good? Otherwise, I would guess your card is bad and I'd have it exchanged.
I've always used Ross Melin's LiveCds and I've NEVER had to do anything. It's just always worked. I just upgraded to the livecd version 1.21.3 today and here are the answers to your other questions....
