Video looks scrambled
Video looks scrambled
G'day all.
I have been trying to get ZM working, and as of last night I can now see video in ZM, but the video on my 4 port BT878 (cctv capture card) is scrambled. I am sure the problem is not with ZM as when i use XawTV (to test it) its the same, but I have been looking around for an answer without any luck. Here are the details.
Used the Live 1.19 CD to install. (P3-933, 256MB, 120Gb HDD).
Have 2 x BT878 based card in the system - both detected and can be accessed through XawTV and ZM.
Card 0 - Winfast Pro. This card is showing the video normally and is OK.
Card 1 - BT878 generic card. This card has 4 BNC inputs. I can change to select any of the 4 inputs (tv,Svideo etc etc) and can see the 4 cameras but they are fuzzy.
Even with only the generic card in the system its still the same.
I have read about trying different PAL/NTSC settings in XawTV (we use PAL in Australia), and selecting different country settings but its the same.
The image looks like its out of sync, it has horizontal lines rotating up, and the video image looks like its copied four times on the screen (like a window 2x2).
I have tried the different tests such as the XawTV -q -v etc, and the card is detected.
The card is OK though, i was using it on thie same box with Win2k without any issues.
If someone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.
Thanks
Paul

I might be wrong but it seems that the problem is the BTTV driver. Can you tell us exactly what card is it? (manifacturer, model, etc..) If you are lucky your card is not autodetected and you just have to tell BTTV the model it is. This happens for me with GrandXGuard16P, I have to add "bttv card=102" in "modules.conf", if I don't force the card type it uses "unknown generic" and does not work.
Half a solution
Hi, I'm guessing you have exactly the same card as me and you probably even bought it at exactly the same place (OzSpy perhaps?)
Anyway i've got it working in black and white which is at least a solution to the video being scrambled problem you're having.
Set your device format to 3, your pallete to grey, your width to 320 and height to 240.
I'm still desperate for colour but i can't find anything on it anywhere on the internet. Also I have problems with my frame rate dropping from 25fps with one camera active to 4fps with 2 cameras.
Let me know if it works and if you find a solution to either of my problems
David

This is the same card I have. If you suspect a driver problem, here is what I am using.
I was originally using bttv card=7, MATRIX-Vision MV-Delta.
http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... 64402dff6d
This worked OK but that driver expects the card to have 5 input. I have since switched to using bttv card=77,GrandTec Multi Capture Card (Bt878), as per a post I read in one of our forums. I can't find the post now. This driver expects the card to have 4 composite inputs.

Thanks David, using your settings i now get b/w video although like you I want to get colour.
Tommy
I have tried both card =7, and 77, but neither one gives me colour. What settings do you set your ZM to? I have trie changed Format from 0, 1, 2 and 3, also tried all the palette's but still the best i get is b/w.
I read through the other post you mentioned but still not blessed with seeing colour. Can you shed some more light on our issue?
Thanks again.

Well after learning from others here, i have changed my driver settings to card=77, and set ZM to RGB24. All is working well and clean.
Now my only other question is how to upgrade from 1.19.1 to 1.19.4? I have downloaded the newer version and was hoping for some information regarding this question within it but no luck.
Can anyone help me out here??
After this my next step will be to work out how to open a stream in WMP (as in what to put in the URL).
Thanks

how to upgrade zm:
http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... ht=zmalter
tu use WMP you have to set the streaming output file type in Options, set it to "asf". That should be enough, if not check ffmpeg documentation.
WMP has a buffering issue: you will always get a 5 seconds delay as it will always buffer for 5 seconds or more.

Thanks for that, after posting my last reply i came across a article (http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... grade+19+1) regarding upgrading from 1.19.1 to 1.19.2 so I just followed that and it worked. The only issue was the line regarding mysql zm < db/zmalter-1.19.3.sql came up with a access denied so i continued and all looks well (so far anyway).
My question regarding WMP was not the speed/lag, it was the url. What do i need to put into WMP to get it to open up the stream? http://IP/?????
Thanks
