Installed, but...

Post by combatwombat_nz »

Hi from NZ...
I'm having problems with this Live CD install.
I have setup a new PC: P4, Asus P4P800-VM Mainboard(Intel Chipset 865), 512 MB DDR, 40 GB HDD. Capture Card: Grandtec Xguard 9.
Zoneminder 1.19.1 Live CD installed (with noscsi options).
Problem: Onboard LAN isn't recognised/setup, cannot do it through Mandrake's GUI using the "e100" driver. But it worked in Mandrake 10 official ok, and when running the LiveCD, before install.
The capture card is seen by Mandrake (at least it sees a BT878 card), but doesn't assign it a /dev/video.
What do i do???? I think I could figure out how to build the right files for the LAN if necessary, but I'm thinking there must be something wrong in the compatiblity stakes. (I have installed it fresh twice on this pc to check it)
Help!

More information please.
But it worked in Mandrake 10 official ok, and when running the LiveCD, before install.
Do you mean that when the livecd booted an IP address was assigned by DHCP? And what happens after install? What is the output of "ifconfig"? Does "lsmod" indicate the driver for the LAN port is installed?

The capture card is seen by Mandrake (at least it sees a BT878 card), but doesn't assign it a /dev/video.
The output from "ls -l /dev/video*" is "No such file or directory"?
Any useful output from "dmesg" ? You might try adding this line to /etc/modprobe.conf :
options bttv card=103

Best regards

>ifconfig lists only "lo", lsmod didn't list the e100 driver

> Ok,
I have just reloaded Man10 Official to load ZM on top. But if no joy, I will try that, thanks.

Still No Go on Mand10 Official with Xguard 9

Post by combatwombat_nz »

Hi,

I have now reinstalled Mandrake 10 Official, with ZM 1.19.4.
At least the ethernet is working now. There is still no /dev/video* devices.
dmesg doesn't shed any light. Have altered modprobe.conf with options bttv card=103.

The card works under WindowsXP.
Am beginning to think that the XGuard you guys get in the States and UK are different to what we get here in NZ(which come direct from Taiwan).

I would really like to use Man 10/Linux rather than MS.

Just for reference, the card is a Grandtec Xguard 9, with Conexant Fusion 878A chipset. Other markings on the card are: "1822080" & "GTP220".

Thanks for any help.

:D :D :D :D
Ok, a bit excessive on the smilies.
XAWTV now works.
I got it going with modprobe bttv card=16.
(I chose 16 'cos it's the same chipset- 878A)
Now I will add more cameras (only 1 at the moment), to test the channels (up to 9 on this card), and test ZM.
Hope this helps someone else.
