I want to test a zoneminder setup on a headless server
I am running ubuntu server 8.10 and have a logitech quickcam fusion webcam that i would like to use the test zm before buy cam to put ourside my property.
I have install zm using apt-get install zone mider but I can't seem to get the webcam to work.
I have been through various how-to but don't seem to be getting anywhere.
Before I do anything else I would like to now how I can see if the webcam is installed and the O/S recognizes it
Any help would be appreciated

Uh oh.... Just remembered I don't have any real experience with USB video in Linux.
All that I can make out (you probably found this yourself) is that this part is the USB video:
Looking at the timing stamp from the dmesg output you had USB camera connected at boot up. It looks like the camera has been detected, and seems like all is ok.
I started out with a bunch of USB cameras we had lying around, what I remember from this is that USB is hard to get going correctly. Some of the cameras I used did get recognised similar to yours but I was not able to get them going and gave up.
what do you get from:
sudo ls -l /dev/vid*
?
