I just found out from the manufacturer that they falsely advertised this card on their website as 640x480.

Hi Ray,
Can you confirm that the ether 9808 I just purchased is supposed to capture video at D1 (640x480) and not just CIF (320x240)? I can only get the software to capture at CIF (320x240) resolution. Can you please let me know right away? The card is advertised on your website to work at 640x480 and I have tried the versions of your software. What am I doing wrong or is this card defective?
Thanks,
Brendin

Could you provide more information on version numbers or such? I found there are at least three editions of this card. All seem to be based on PHILIPS SAA7130HL chipset, and all are advertised as supporting 640x480, and are sold as such. Even on the maker's website they still haven't changed that in the description.

Hello,
I can get the wave-p ETHER9404 card to work with:
modprobe saa7134 card=97,97,97,97
But it works on and off, can work for 2 hours then the camera starts flimmer and the colors got mixed up. And the harddrive is filled up with motion records because of the flimmer.
Anyone got this problem?
thanks,
Christian

Please Help Installing Wavep card and Zone Minder
Hello, I have bought two ETHER9808 cards. I am using the manufacturer software in Windows, which is very unstable (It hangs every 8 hours).
I would like to change to ZoneMinder, but I do not know where to start. I would like to install ZoneMinder and Wapa Cards on an Ubuntu system.
1. how do I setup wavep drivers for this card (green)?
2. how do I setup ZoneMinder?
3. Is it possible to watch cameras over a mobile phone?
I will be reading zone minder site in order to get help. Please guide me through this, I am a novice using linux and cctv systems.
thanks in advance.

I just pull this DVR from production for maintenance so I have some time to answer some of the questions.

I have it set to 320x240. 640x480 is a no go for me.

I have only worked with the gold card, on the pcb is stamp "WAVE-P DVR9808V1.0" I'll post a pic.

Sorry I have not had problem with zmc 1.22, 1.23. Or the flimmer issue.

I only use Gentoo Linux when I have a choice. (I'm not knocking other distros I just like Gentoo) I have never done a Ubuntu/ZoneMinder install. But you may want to note the specs below.
DVR specs:
Mobo Intel D845GEBV2
CPU 1.7G P4
1G ram
No vid card this box is headless
One DVR9808V1.0 with eight channels
All back and white cameras
Gentoo 2008.0 Linux with 2.6.24 kernel
ZoneMinder 1.23
Firefox is used for management.
Other thoughts and tidbits.
I tried this cards on a A-bit mobo then in a Dell with no luck. I have had no issue with this card in this older Intel board. Also the Gentoo install is bare bones, only ZM and SSH are running EVERYTHING else has been removed. The kernel is also striped down. The 640x480 issue bothers me but it was not a requirement for this box.
Good luck

xnaron,
I would double check you adjusted your shared memory settings (found in the FAQ) and then try 640x480 on one camera while the others are turned off.
I've heard manufacturers claim their cards only support 320x240 while the card in fact supports 640x480. They were either mistaken or know that the card will run too hot in some cases if you capture at 640x480 (which can be addressed by adding heatsinks to the capture chips on the card.).

Ok so this is where I was at last night. I was trying the setup on my p4 system with a live CD. I actually tried some different live cds and the latest one will not boot. Anyway, zoneminder defaults with one camera as video0 (0). When I selected the little tool that lets you search all it sees is video0 (0). I get nothing but a black screne. After looking at this post and not having any idea what modprobe was I dug around a bit. I stopped zoneminder used the suggested modprobe comand on the command line (terminal or whatever it is called in linux) . I then changed state to running and was still unable to view the camera.
I also tried an older xubunto live cd and when I ran zoneminder it by default added 4 monitors. The first one was the black box and the other three were grey lines. They were all video0 (0) video1 (0) and so forth.
What am I missing? Should this work from a live CD or am I going to need a real install of the software?
I dont mind the windows software for this card and I find the gui kind of helpfull. However, I do have one ip camera and the windows software does not seem to work with my 3g phone. I used to us webcamxp but found that the way it does video with motion (dont ask me why) causes problems with the hard drive. After a day or so the software is still stable and starts causing errors on the disk. Windows eventually stops seeing the disk. I repaired one 200gb hard drive 4 times and now on boot the bios tells me the hard drive is bad. No more webcamxp. I also noticed that the windows software uses very few system resources. My single core 3ghz p4 is only at like 15% while recording.
Today I should have an intel atom 330 board coming in and I plan to turn that into my DVR box. I am hoping to use zoneminder instead of the factory software.
Anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks.

Hello,
I have wave-p ETHER9808 v1.0 DVR card installed on my computer.
I just installed ubuntu 9.10 64 bit. After that I tipped in terminal:
(can 64 bit be a problem ? )
sudo modprobe saa7134 card=97,97,97,97,97,97,97,97
to load saa7134 module.
I have installed zonemider with
sudo apt-get install apache2 php5-mysql libapache2-mod-php5 mysql-server
sudo apt-get install ffmpeg libarchive-tar-perl libarchive-zip-perl libdate-manip-perl libdevice-serialport-perl
sudo apt-get install libjpeg62 libmime-perl libstdc++6 libwww-perl zlib1g
sudo apt-get install zoneminder
sudo ln -s /etc/zm/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf
sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 force-reload
sudo adduser www-data video
after that i launched my webbrowser and opened
localhost/zm
I tied to add new camera
this are settings that i have changed
Device Path /dev/video2
Capture Method video for linux ver 1
Device Channel 0
Device Format PAL
Capture Palette RGB24
Capture Width (pixels) 320
Capture Height (pixels) 240
Preserve Aspect Ratio
Orientation normal
after save i wanted to see my camera so i clicked at 'zones'.
The only thing that I see is red color and no picture (on any input)
Do You see any mistake that I have made ? Please help me ...

I have made some improvement
Now I can see the picture in VLC.
I have created and added this to /etc/modprobe.d/options :
alias char-major-81 saa7134
options saa7134 gbuffers=16 card=97,97,97,97,97,97,97,97
and increased "shared memory" at the end of /etc/sysctl.conf with
kernel.shmall = 134217728
kernel.shmmax = 134217728
all that is described on
http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... 10_Desktop
there is also list of cards and their number (card = 97 .... )
Still zoneminder doesn't show any picture :/ and the picture in VLC isn't acceptable (quality)

I dont know why it didnt work before -- suddenly it just started
Everything is working now ! but sometimes camera just turns off (in main screen it is written with red font) and there is no picture (black picture).
When I click on '/dev/video4 (0)' (this is red) and then press save (just save - no changes) it works again. It happens on every camera from time to time ...
Can zoneminder restart camera when it looses picture ??
