Multiple camera's on Cat5

Post by Amanda »

I'm planning on using cat5 with video baluns to carry video and using a
second pair in the same cat5 cable to carry power to each camera. The
runs would be under 300ft.

Am I correct in assuming that I can connect 2 camera's to each cat5
cable using 2 pair for each camera or would that be a problem?

Running power over cat5 is very limited. About 50 feet for 12 volts and maybe 100 feet for 24 volt AC supply. But yes you could use two cams per cat5.

The 300 foot spec is only for networking, video over cat5 with a balun can go >1000 feet.

Would there be a problem connecting 4 cameras over one Cat5? Power would obviously be run separately....
