ZoneMinder Problem.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Im am a beginer in linux, but I am trying to setup a security sistem at my house, and ZoneMinder seems the best solution. I succesfuly instaled zoneminder on a Ubuntu 8.10 server but I can`t see the streming from the camera. One of them is a TrendNet IP TV-100 camera and two of the are web cams. From the ip camera I can`t see anything but from the web cams they are somme still broken images. When are set to motiondetection, it shows in events motion alert, but with no image.
I atached an URL from ubuntu forums, where I made this post, but with no replay, maibe someone will know what is the problem.
In can see images from the web cams with "cheese", and lsusb shows:
root@ubuntu:/home/user# lsusb

Solid Year and Omnivizion are the web cams, and Primax Electronics is a usb mouse.
Thanks!

What could be the problem?
Thank you for the quick replay.

Hi all
I've got exactly the same problem (in LinuxMint 6, which is Ubuntu 8.10 in fact). ZM version is 1.23.3 (the last packaged for Ubuntu). I did not install from source.
I have the webcam Genius EYE 110, and it's being found as Pixart Imaging, Inc (pac207).

I have the picture (after shutting down ZM) in Skype, xawtv, cheese, whatever else. The logs are exactly the same, so no need to paste them here.
I don't see the streaming video, only the still images, mostly just black rectangles. Sometimes there is a very distorted grey image splashes (with a datetime on it).
I've tried all the possible combinations, but it looks like it shows at least something only with PAL (or AUTO) and Grey palette.
The permissions for /dev/video0 are set to 660 and www-data user is in video group.
I've already set shared memory to be smmax = 50 Mb and small = 128 Mb (can it be not enough?!).
Anyway, I've had some messages like "Shared memory not initialized" when ZM was starting (now is seems not to produce these errors anymore).
I've tried to set the source width and height to 320x240 and 176x144, but it did not help.
BTW, this monitor source string (/dev/video0 (0)) is colored red in ZM web interface. I saw it to be orange several times after making some changes, but them it became red again.
Looking though this forum, I see 2 more similar posts, all without the answers:
zmdc exited abnormally, exit status 255
Shared memory
But, this is the most recent.
Aren't there any specialists here to help?

Hooray, I've managed to configure the latest ZM 1.24.x (from the package taked here on this forum) under openSUSE 11.1.
(Yes, I had to install openSUSE in order not to compile from source in Ubuntu )
It works in Video Mode 2 (not sure I'm correct in the name here), and shows a very small GREY picture, but it works
What I've done is changed the resolution of the picture from 'official' 176x144 to something like 180x140 or something like that. Cannot tell you precisely, because my internet is broken at home at the moment.
I've also noticed while testing that after each resolution change it's necessary to refresh (F5) the window with the picture. Otherwise it blinks but does not show the real result.
I've changed the resolution because the image taken from camera was 'shifted' to the right. I mean, each line of pixels was shifted right to 1-2 pixels. After changing the resolution image is stable.
When I try to mage it bigger OR change the palette to anything other than GREY, the picture disappears at all. Perhaps, it's shared memory problem again, I'll investigate it more.
P.S. It does not matter which video format I choose - PAL, SECAM, NTSC, or whatever. The picture is absolutely the same.
And, I did not try the changed resolution with Video Mode 1 yet (like in ZM 1.23).
I will update you all with the results here later.

I had the same problem using Fedora. I commented the line 183 and works.
However, see what Phil said to me: http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... 0351#50351

Another problem (related maybe)
Any ideas?
