Limit max. event duration.
Limit max. event duration.
Hi, all! I've got into problems with zm 0.9.15. We are monitoring the store and sometimes there is a lot of motion, so zoneminder keeps recording and creates _HUGE_ events ( say, 4000 seconds long). It is virtually impossible to navigate in such images. Is it possible to limit the maximal duration of event? Is it posiible to split the events to smaller parts? Thanks a lot.

Re: Limit max. event duration.
Hi Yevheniy,
I can see your problem. Currently there is no way to break up events.
However in the .16 release coming up you can choose to monitor in a continuous recording mode that either also includes alarms or not. So if you are monitoring a scene that is always alarming it may be that it would be better for you to use one of these modes. When used in this way ZM allows you to specify what the length of the events should be, so maybe 5 minutes each or as long as you like.
However if you were using a continuous monitoring mode with motion detection then the problem of long events might still occur as an event would not be closed until no more motion was detected. Version .16 does also give you the option of creating videos at accelerated frame rates which may help to scan long events also.
I will have a think about what the best way of approaching the problem may be. If you can give me some more information about what you are trying to use ZM to do then I may be able to suggest something, for instance is motion detection important or are you just trying to make a record that you can refer back to to check if something happened at a particular time?
Regards,
Phil,

Re: Limit max. event duration.
i think will be best to wait .16 and see if some new function will fix some recuest.
continuos recording will be a big upgrade and expand zm capabilities in many ways..

Re: Limit max. event duration.
Thanks for your replies. But continous recording isn't the perfect solution in my case. I would like to keep the motion detection. It would be perfect, if i can limit duration of stored video sequences, i.e. if there is an event, which is longer than some predefined limit (say, 1 minute or so), it is not stored as one big event but is splitted to parts (for example, event123-1, event123-2,...,event123-n). This solution would also include the continuos recording functionality (if one wants to record continuously, it would be enough to just force alarm on some monitor). Thanks.
