Test camera at command line? No X server...

Post by quietas »

I remember it's possible, but I don't remember how to test a camera at the command line without X. The server is supposed to be headless, but I do have a monitor plugged in at this time.

The hardware is a P4 1.8, AverTV BT878, /dev/video0, input 1 (rca), QPSCDNV camera.

I installed using 1.24 SVN on Ubuntu 8.10 on a clean box per the newer wiki instructions. I'm testing the new 1.24, but the settings I used in 1.23 don't seem to work the same, thus I need a way to pull images directly from the camera.

Perhaps you could use the zmc command to make a capture and then transfer the capture to a PC with a monitor.
