zm4ppc help needed zm viewer for pocket pc 2003 se
great job so far
but i'm wondering why the fps stay so low...
i can watch videos on my ipaq 4150 perfectly.
is it a problem of getting a single image (handshake and stuff) or to put in on the screen? maybe we could gain some performance if we use an mjpeg stream...
i tried VLC and opera-mini but the refused to play mjpeg. mplayer is only for WM5+.

mjpeg would help but would have other issues.
TYhe video you watch will be local to the device, or if streamed will be in 3gp probably.
this would be better but alas i cant write that.
its limited to 2fps (i think) but if you realy drop the quality (or alter your live stream quality in zm settings) then it will help. Its mainly a bandwidth problem and with that mjpeg wont help.

give it a shot?
as i mentioned in another thread http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11622, i found a nice tool for accessing IP-cams.
since it is not possible to enter an URL for the image source it cant be used with zoneminder the next drawback: it's not opensource...
BUT: i used it to pull 320x240 images from an axis 206 over the internet with 9 FPS (PDA connected via USB to my desktop).
so it can't be a bandwith problem. i would rather say its the overhead, TCP-Slowstart and reconnecting that matters.
i have done mjpeg parsing before, so i don't mind diving into the code - if you want me to

pulling straight from the ip cam would be faster but would only be anygood on a local connection, of no use remote. The primary reason for the app (for me) is when im not local to various systems. Mpeg would help here but thats a whole new ball game

Just wanted to update this thread a bit. I'm currently using the new Palm Treo 800w on a trial basis with Sprint in the USA. The 800w runs Windows Mobile 6.1 with a 320x320 screen. I'm able to use ZM4PPC very well with scaling set to 100 - the images are very crisp. Though I think the images are cut off slightly; the program seems to think the screen is wider than it is (I can tell my labels are cut off on the left).
But it looks good! I've bound zm4ppc to the side button, so I have one-button access to the live shots. Thanks again James!

no problem
to be fair if the screen is over 240 wide it would assume it was in landscape mode. this will cause an issue on square sceens and i will have to chnage that, when i get access to a high res square device.

Where can I download the latest version of ZM4PPC ?
Hi james,
First things first, Thanks your for sharing your usefull work !
Here is my question: Where can I download the latest version of ZM4PPC ?
I found only a link to
http://www.jpwilson.eu/ZM4PPC.zip
who contains a version of Mar 9, 2008. This version needs the configfile on the root and doesn't show which camera is selected. It doesn't offer more than 4 cams...
However I read in this thread that you have done some enhancements since this date...
My PPC is vga resolution and I'm also interested with the progress on quad display...
again thanks a lot.

no quad-button?
hi james,
i use an HTC TOUCH HD with 480x800. if zm4ppc is not rotated the videopicture is far to big. if it's rotated the picture fits into the screen.
but in both views i don't have a quad-button
maybe i'm using an old version? http://www.jpwilson.eu/ZM4PPC.zip contains a file which crashes on launch. so i followed http://www.jpwilson.eu/ZM4PPC.exe
cheers,
tim

quick and dirty
i guess the quickest method would be the quad-view option in the menu
are there any other buttons i don't see?

Just wanted to bring up another option i came across. I use the coreplayer for the ppc since it can play mjpeg streams. And since its already on my pda. I just create a .pls file with all the info then copy it to my ppc. I then start core player and open that file. I dont know how many cameras it supports but i use 5, I can also select cameras by hitting the next track button, this skips through all cams in the .pls. The quality is great but you can't select individual cameras other than skipping through each one. One thing i did see is that it is added to your playlist so if you go there and hit the refresh button you can select each camera but its just as fast to hit next track. I created this in notepad then saved it a a .pls file. I also dont what is all needed in the string I just did a copy paste from one of my camera streams in the browser.

One more thing this also works on the desktop with the VLC player.
Re: zm4ppc help needed zm viewer for pocket pc 2003 se
I agree. I have a wireless PDA and have tested it with wifi and over blue tooth with GPRS. But without the connection it will run when docked over active sync too!Corey I haven't as yet mastered saving con fig on the ppc but if you pm those details for your server ill hard code them and email the prog (i did this before but Ur mail server rejected the exe in the zip file... I bet there would be a lot more interest in this nowadays with Pocket PC phones becoming more popular. I use pocket IE with the format=xhtml option to view my cams remotely, but I would love something that could stream, or even just be somewhat easier to use.. http://www.wallstreetforex.eu
