two problems and 1 question

Post by carlo1973 »

1) We recently noticed that the disk usage is saying 100%. However checking the disk space shows that there is plenty of space free (+14gb)

2) Our filters do not seem to be working. We can't delete them or reset them. The automatic delete filter is not working either. It is currently set to purge everything greater than 10 days old and set to run in the background. However it doesn't seem to be running in the background. I have to manually invoke it.

Now the question

How does the archive feature work? Does it compress them in to a tar file? if not is there anyway to set it up to compress into a bzip tar file to save any additional space?

thanks a bunch.

you can tell it to ftp a archive to another server

its under filter

also to make sure your saving to the right partition

run df

Well it's not being FTP'd to a seperate server. It's staying on a dedicated server. The problem is that zonealarm is reporting that there isn't any free space. It's also not purging old records despite setting it to run in the background and setting it to purge old archived records every 10 days. The purge on full filter does not appear to be functioning either despite being set to 95%.

I'm not to worried about the archiving part of it. It would be great if it archived with gzip or bzip for compression of the archive, but not a huge issue, if it would delete/purge old records when scheduled to do so.

10 days may be the problem? In my opinion, the only way to properly setup a purgewhenfull is to pick a maximum percentage of disk space to be filled. It's possible you don't have the disk space for 10 days. Try 90% of disk space, and it should start kicking in. If that works and you need 10 days, you either need a lower frame-rate, higher compression, or more drive space.

Could be correct on the not enough room for 10 days. Current is 5/28 - today six days at at 61% disk and that has a weekend with less traffic.

I have now set PurgeWhenFull to 90.

What amount will it purge?
Or will it just purge on the fly and keep it at the 90% disk?

Is that creating more overhead? Load ranges from 0.27 to 0.41 while watching it now...

It'll start purging the oldest events when it gets over 90%. I've found that it doesn't really effect my server load, unless I decide to dump a 200 gig file on the server, rapidly bumping it up to a higher percentage. That only happens because I use my server for more than ZoneMinder, and shouldn't be an issue if ZM's all the machine's doing.

If it's at 100% and has to drop to 90% when you set the filter, it will eat server load until it's caught back up. But once it's caught up, it stays that way.
