Cameras that do motion detection...

Post by tristpost »

Can ZoneMinder somehow take advantage of cameras that do simple motion detection themselves in order to only let ZoneMinder spend CPU time on pictures when there are any changes in the pictures?

There are for instance digital capture cards and web-cams that can detect and report when there are ANY change between two frames. ZoneMinder could then do "second line" motion detection by applying zone information etc but would not have to spend CPU time on identical images...

You could do this is you can get some indication of motion detection from the camera. This could be via an http interface or something hardware related but would have to be real-time-ish. There will be a more generic triggering interface in the next version which you could use for this purpose.
