Interesting behavior when viewing live images

Post by RandomJoe »

Whenever I view a live stream, then close and shortly thereafter go back to it (within 20-30 minutes), I get the "broken page" icon for the image itself. If I change the bandwidth setting before going back to it, or wait about 30 minutes, it comes up! Of course, this means I can only go back to a given camera 3 times in about 30 minutes...!

The capture daemon is still running fine, all events are processed, the window even updates the framerate, just no picture.

I've checked all the logs I know of (the ones ZoneMinder puts in /tmp, as well as the system logs) and nothing is coming up. I finally got some extra memory today, thought perhaps that was it, but it is still has that behavior after the added memory. In fact, it seems to be worse, taking longer to begin working again than before. But that may be because I'm actually working on that problem right now.

I have added the lines that increase shmmax and shmall, per the FAQ. I was having those memory errors until I did that.

Anyone know of a possible reason this is happening?

Thanks,
Joe

I'll guess that you are using mozilla native mjpeg streaming.
Try right clicking in the image frame, and then selecting "This Frame --> Reload Frame"
If you don't want to have to do this, make sure you have java installed on the client, and cambozola on the server. Then set ZM_CAN_STREAM to "no".

Phil, does this qualify as a frequently asked question?

Best regards,

Sometimes the "This Frame --> Reload Frame" trick doesn't in fact cure the problem, but leaves an old image in view, so that it sort-of looks as if it might be working until you notice nothing's changing...

Yep, that was it. I'm getting ready to do a major overhaul / reinstall of my server, so I'll probably go ahead and add cambozola once that is done. In light of the source of the problem, I would also vote for adding it to the FAQ.

Thanks for the help!

i dont think it should be added to FAQ.

i know this is a bug that we can solve, just like when i have discovered the bug of "only 2 cameras showed" in firefox/mozilla

cambozola is another technoloy, not a fix for our problems.

what about search a fix ?

lets send messages to mozilla developer's list among other useful things

who are with me ?
