I'm building several new systems with a Dell Studio Core2 Quad with 8gb RAM, 1x 320gb, and 2x 1tb drives. The server is planned to be headless and accessed remotely. I will have physical access, but web and SSH (maybe FeeeNX) LAN and VLAN remote access will be the primary method. My current boxes are Ubuntu 8 and 9 built from source.
What currently is the best supported OS for use with Zoneminder? Is there a distro which has frequently updated packages for easy maintenance and upgrades?
EDIT: BTW, the newer PV-981 PCI-Ex1 cards from Bluecherry seem to work great. I needed these since the Dell Studio systems only have 1 normal PCI, but they have 2 PCI-Ex1.
Best OS, Most Compatible, Easiest with ZM?

You can try adding this line to your sources.list to install Peter Howard's Ubuntu version based on 1.24:quietas wrote:I guess I'll run with Ubuntu 9.04 server. I am the most familiar with Ubuntu/Debian, but I do operate a RH 5.3 Zimbra mail server as well.
From a dev standpoint, is there a preferred OS for compatibility? From the package maintenance side, does any one flavor stand out as staying the most current?
