What is it "Linked monitors" ?

I foundig out the meaning and function of "linked monitors" but still nothing.

1. What is it?
2. How it works and why?

linked monitors are where one camera will trip another.
Useful in situations of overlapping camera coverage to get a second angle or to record a second area that has not yet enough movement to trigger motion detection
