Does zoneminder 1.24.2 need perl-5.10

I thought I might upgrade to the latest zoneminder, particularly since gentoo has the latest version as an ebuild. However I get the following error message

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "~dev-lang/perl-5.10.1"

I have 5.8.8 installed. So I want to know if perl 5.10.1 is really needed because I might try a src build if it is not.

Perl 5.8.8 should be fine. 5.10 is not a ZM requirement. I think you can get away with as early as 5.6.0.
