I'm interested in combining motion detection from a regular network camera with a higher resolution still camera. Think of it as my own little speed trap. I want to capture the front or rear of the car in higher resolution after it has triggered a motion in one of the zones I've set up for the other camera.
I couldn't find any easily networked still cameras with higher resolution.
Are there any network cameras that support POE that have good resolution and are small enough to be put outside (I can make an enclosure so it doesn't have to be outdoor rated)?
Network Still Cameras? Remote wireless cameras?
Yeah, the megapixel axis does wireless too - if 1024x768 is adequate - and keep everything in one unit. If not, then yes, using one of the trigger outputs would work.
PoE it does not do, but a simple splitter will get you the 5vdc (I think, but check) it needs from a PoE feed. I've done this quite a few times with Axis and Y-cam ipcams on PoE using cheap D-Link splitters.
I don't know of a hi res still camera that takes an on/off feed to activate, but if you're dedicated enough you could built a little servo-activated cage for any camera which would press the shutter release, or rat-tail shutter cable.
