problems with mixed light events

Post by antartic_martian »

Hi, I have some cameras in the warehouses of a factory. The cameras point to the doors of the warehouses (the shipment zones). When we have only artificlal light the events (truck loading) are detected without problems but when the doors are open and the sunlight enters through them many events are lost... The type of movement that need to be detected are lift truck movements and parcels traveling on conveyor belts.

The sunlight is much much brighter that the articifial light in the warehouses and is seen as ultra bright white areas on the frames. I guess that that is blinding the cameras/software to the other movements, isn't it?

I tried with a zone that covers only the floor of the warehouse, but that leaved me with a reduced hit area, because the doors are quite big and cameras are pointing them, as I said. By now I ended with continuous recording, but that greatly reduced our event storage capacity (in terms of time), so I'd like to be able to go back to motion detection based events.

Is there anything I could do? Can I tweak the software in any way to reduce the influence of the bright areas in the frames? Or else should we go the hardware route change the cameras/lenses? Is there any special lenses/cameras/filters we should look for?

I'm almost a newbie so any basic hint will shurely help me big time! Thanks in advance...

What variety of cameras are they? You probably want something with an auto-iris, either built in or on the lens.

The cameras are LG LS-300P and the lenses are Tamron 13VG308AS-SQ. I believe they are auto-iris. Do you think they should be up to the task?

Thanks for you comment!
