A feature question

Complete newbie here... Going to install / start learning about ZM more...

Got a specific question about the current ZM features... Would appreciate any replies...

Is it possible to set up ZM so it does the following:

1. Video is constantly recorded (but deleted automatically after so many hours/days).

2. When an alarm is triggered, it would generate and save a video clip of a preset length on the local hard drive just before and after the alarm (let's say, 3 sec before and 10 sec after).

3. Send out a notification email with an http (or ftp) link to the video clip just saved for the alarm.

4. Allow a remote user to download the video clip (assuming that the PC running ZM has a public IP address).

I need a solution that would enable a remote user to see a high quality video clip of the alarm event via a very slow connection, so remote access / video streaming / direct playback isn't an option.

Well, I understand that if such features aren't supported in the latest version, I'm free to try and add them myself, just wondering what's possible 'out of the box' right now...

YEP via filters

Yep its in the camera setting under buffer.

3. Send out a notification email with an http (or ftp) link to the video clip just saved for the alarm.

Yep supports both(however email is slightly trick to get working)

4. Allow a remote user to download the video clip (assuming that the PC running ZM has a public IP address).

Yep all they need to do is push the video button and it will generate a video in the format they chose mpg, avi, wmv, etc..

Yes however its easier to start with the default mjpeg streaming until you get your feat wet with zm, because ffmpeg creates various problems for new users.

Hi all,

I have acquired a Grand Mega Pixel Wi-Fi Camera, sporting a web server for control and image / stream access.

I can view the stream via <ip>/cgi-bin/activex.cgi, yet it requires login. I tried <ip>/cgi-bin/activex.cgi?USER=xyz&PWD=uvw to no avail. It always pops up a message box for authorization.

Is there a way to configure the logon with ZM ?

Thanks Marcio, it seems to work in the browser, so, hopefully, it will do the trick with ZM

Thanks so much for your helpful input, kingofkya! It sounds very encouraging looks like ZM is the perfect solution for me. I've looked at so many free and commercial video surveillance software packages and they all seem to be designed for high-speed LAN connectivity where bandwidth isn't an issue. None of them support all of the features I'm interested in - alarm video clip generation / providing download link by email. You guessed right, I'm far from being a Linux expert so I'll try ZMarch.

Just an update on my experience with ZM so far.

I've installed ZM on Ubuntu 9.10 and configured it so that it does EVERYTHING I wanted it to and more... Beautiful piece of software! Thanks to all developers and contributors...

Thanks for the follow up, great to hear it's what you wanted.

I really do like follow ups, good or bad. I don't know about kingofkya but when I've spent time on a forum helping somebody and never hear anything back, it sacks the will to want to keep doing it. Just a quick thanks and result, good or bad, makes such a difference.

Well, I'm only beginning to learn about this whole deal of Linux / ZM etc. and am finding the Wiki and Forums very helpful... I posted a couple of questions at the forum only to take them down almost right away because I've found answers in the Wiki or someone's post after a little bit of searching.
