ZoneMinder keeps crashing ???

Post by magix_ch »

Hello,

After having tons of problems and bugs it seems I was finally able to have something "running" but now ZoneMinder is crashing every 5-10 seconds !!!

If someone had some advice it would be greatly appreciated because I'm very close to completely abandon ZoneMinder, because whatever problem is solved, another one arrives...

zm is stable.
If its not stable on your install id start with a prebuilt version.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply... Our server runs FedoraCore 9, and firstly I installed the "standard prebuild shipped-with" version but it was not working at all.

Now with the lastest version, compiled manually, at least everything seems to work, I was even able to set alarms and zones and I can see the image of the cameras... But the problem is that it is crashing every 10 seconds... Do you know why it is crashing like that, maybe some option should be changed ?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help...

Ill have to admit i have never ever compiled zm. I always use an rpm etc that someone else who understands these things has built.
Im still using ross's live cd.

Anyway id prove its stability with that first. Looks like it s a major crash to me but you will need someone who knows more then me to help

What is strange is that it worked and then I changed some options (I think detection zones and things like that) and now it is crashing...

If someone could help me find what's wrong it would be nice...

Well very interesting : crash every 10 seconds happen only with language = french !!!

And with English, the crash only happens when I try to view an alarm/event !

From time to time, even in English I get some crash but a LOT LESS than before :

In fact it has nothing to do with language... After some changes it crashes again continuously.

Interestingly it crashes almost exactly each minute ?
Is there some reason to that, like some buffer full ???

Did you disable selinux? if not try it.

It may work with it now I really don't know as i have had too manny problems with the rpm distros centos and fedora to keep useing them. I now only use debain or arch as there fast and stable, debain is more stable that arch but arch is always cutting edge so.

Also if this is a dedicated zm box try out the zmarch cd saves a lot of time and everything works the first time.

Yes it's under Fedora, but not dedicated box... This server is online at provider premises...

How should I do to disable selinux ?

And now after having changed some options no more backtraces (???) but :
zms[12241]: INF [Got signal 15 (Terminated), exiting]
zms[12241]: ERR [Unable to send stream frame: Broken pipe]
What does that mean ?

Fully Disabling SELinux
Fully disabling SELinux goes one step further than just switching into permissive mode. Disabling will completely disable all SELinux functions including file and process labelling.

In Fedora Core and RedHat Enterprise, edit /etc/selinux/config and change the SELINUX line to SELINUX=disabled:

# This file controls the state of SELinux on the system.
# SELINUX= can take one of these three values:
# enforcing - SELinux security policy is enforced.
# permissive - SELinux prints warnings instead of enforcing.
# disabled - No SELinux policy is loaded.
SELINUX=disabled
# SELINUXTYPE= can take one of these two values:
# targeted - Only targeted network daemons are protected.
# strict - Full SELinux protection.
SELINUXTYPE=targeted

... and then reboot the system.
