Interlacing...

Osprey 100 (single BT878 chip) 4-port card, 748x480 max. Hooked up this CCTV camera: http://lorexstore.lorextechnology.com/p ... ECS_R4.pdf

At 320x240, the video quality is good. At 748x480 I get severe interlacing when there's motion...

Tried using a Sony handicam, http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... ifications

The same low quality interlaced picture at 748x480, no problems at 320x240.

Tried enabling multiple video 4L buffers or increasing number of captured images per return frame, no seeming effect. SHMALL and SHMMAX are both set to 256MB

Is it possible to overcome interlacing under these conditions or 320x240 res is the ONLY solution?

yes if no added software/hardware...
No, there's a videoloop thread somewhere arround here, I guess in User contribution forum... check it out... and try and read about NTSC/PAL system.

Thanks! I see now. So, basically, 352x240 for NTSC or a progressive scan IP camera is the way to go... Too bad! The small video picture is pathetic if one wants to recognize an identity by it...

There are a lot of options, but most, if not all of them involves money, lots and lots of money!!!

1. Are those options cost-effective? If you have existing CCTV cameras probably they are, but what if you are planning a new installation? Then, forgetting about analogue video altogether and going strictly IP would perhaps be as much or less money for much better quality? Analogue TV technologies are what, almost a century old? No wander they don't get along well with digitizing...

2. Are there video capture cards that would incorporate deinterlacing? Or is it physically impossible?

Thanks for the link! Sounds like a nice solution to deinterlace an analogue video signal, but are we talking about inferior quality as opposed to digital and/or progressive scan as we still get only 'half' of scanned picture, just spoofing it and recomposing with 100% lines that do not represent a single point of time?

I feel awkward asking most simple questions--just learning about all these things, thank you guys for your patience with me and your help. I appreciate it.

Hardware compression cards typically have a method to do deinterlacing on the fly (Atleast our cards do). However, these cards will not work with Zoneminder and require the software that ships with the card.

Using ffmpeg as source with deinterlace option? I haven't tried it with zm (yet), but from a dv source (firewire, dvgrab) it works like a charm even in 720x575.

Does DV-149 have any deinterlacing feature built in? I've just ordered one.

The PV- series are software compression which use the BT878a chipset, so no they will not do deinterlacing. The only cards that will do deinterlacing _have_ to be used with our software:

Tried adding it in Options / Images / ffmpeg output options, haven't noticed any difference...
