card issues - zmc errors out

Post by dragonrm »

I know this isn't the best card I could buy but I feel it should work. I'm having a problem with the feeds getting the following error:

Code: Select all

Apr 9 14:56:57 movies2 zma_m1[32252]: INF [Door: 7000 - Processing at 9.90 fps]
Apr 9 14:57:27 movies2 zmc_dvideo0[32403]: INF [Door: 4000 - Capturing at 10.00 fps]

Apr 9 14:57:44 movies2 zmc_dvideo0[32517]: INF [Starting Capture]
Apr 9 14:58:38 movies2 zma_m1[32252]: INF [Door: 8000 - Processing at 9.90 fps]
This happens quite often and I've tried changing the card type with insmod too. The chip uses saa7130/34 v4l driver (SAA7130HL is on the chips).
I've tried searching the web and this site but haven't seen any real info about this issue or a fix for it. If you need more info let me know.

By the way great software, I'm running at home and love it I just need this card to stop doing this as it drops the modect for up to 2 minutes while it resets.

[Sync failure for frame 1 buffer 2(1): Input/output error]

leads me to believe it might be Heat or something in the system is failing.

try slowing down fps rate

Right now I have the default rate at 10 fps. I'll try five but I'll leave the alarm rate at 25 fps, it doesn't seem do drop once it's in an alarm state.

The heat idea I didn't even think about, I'll have to see if any stores around here carry the stick on heat syncs, although I don't think the internals of the system are that hot (it really doesn't so much as far as load).

I/O (Input/Output) error means communication between the card and the driver failed. It can happen for many reasons, such as, but not limited to:
1) Card\device malfunction, it can happen for many reasons: defective, overheating or unstable power supply causing malfunction.
2) Card pins or PCI slot pins have some dirt on them

I don't know much about the sa7xxx chips, but i know bt878 chips get VERY hot and if you want them to last long, need to install heatsinks on them, so i suggest you try that, it can't do any harm and it will make those chips last much longer. when it comes to electricity, the cooler, the better.
You can use small heatsinks designed for VGA or memory chips, i used heatsinks that are very easy to install, just need to remove the cover of the sticker and stick it to the chip (after cleaning the chip with alcohol)
