No video in ZM 1.24.1 with PcLOS 2010 (SOLVED)

Post by snake61 »

Interesting. After days and hundreds of threads and trying all suggestions in those threads, i stumbled upon the answer.

I recall in ZM 1.23.XX when adding a "New Monitor", under the "Source" tab under device path it read: /dev/video<?> and then the channel was 0.

To get it to work under ZM 1.23.xx, I changed the device path to read /dev/video --omitting the <?>, then the channel was supplied by ZM making it read /dev/video0.

In ZM 1.24.1 I noted the device path was the same: /dev/video<?>

So as in ZM 1.23.xx I removed the <?> so it would read: /dev/video

However that did not work. No video and a red link.

So finally after days, I just went in and changed the device path from:

/dev/video of which is typically /dev/video<?>, and changed it to read:

/dev/video0, saved the settings, refreshed, link went green, and video could be observed. As you look at it in the console window the "Source" shows

/dev/video0 (0)

Now, why it works, what was broken, why did this fix it, I'll leave that to those of you who are way above my level as is obvious.

Hope it works for all the others having trouble getting video from a bttv card with their new ZM 1.24.1
Thanks for all the Help.

Most likely you distro gave you a sym link from video to video0 just like cd-rw and dvd are linked to sr0

also from my tryout it depends on # of cams AND which distro/version you have

eg you have one webcam it's only 'video', with two you end up with 'video0' and 'video1'

but then, if you remove on of them things get really messed up ... and sometimes you end up with phantom cams
(i've just tried different webcams, usb ports and hubs, cable extensions etc so there was a different setup every few minutes!)

so i'll always try all those possibilities first, and look at /dev - and the permissions - and the logs

No Video in ZM 1.24.x (SOLVED)

Post by snake61 »

There was only one analog camera and obne card from bluecherry, I think a 143. No hardware changed. Worked great with PCLinuxOS 2008 and ZM 1.23.x. Updated to ZM 1.24.x on PCLOS 2008-No video. Updated PCLOS 2010, same thing until I found the /dev/video0 (0). So somewhere in the ditro change and the ZM changed, something changed.

Also note that the cameras no longer have numbered monitors, e.g., 1., 2., 3., etc.

That being omitted for some reason also broke my iPhone ap "Camera Viewer" since it looks for a camera number under the Zoneminder 1 and 2 prests for the ap. Now the ap is broken. Can only access my ZM from Safari on iPhone.

Anyone else had problems with the iPhone ap being broken?????
Thanks for all the Help.
