ubuntu 10.04 64bit desktop, high CPU

Post by 56pit »

I am running:
Ubuntu 10.04 64bit desktop (i'm still a newb to linux)
Quad core AMD 2.4Ghz
4GB ram
(1) 1TB hard drive
PV-981 for port card
zm 1.24.2 (whatever build is in the synaptic installer)
3 cameras set as:
Linux version 2
dev/video0 - 2
NTSC MJPG
BGR24
640 x 480
15fps
modetect for all 3.

Everything works, but I am getting a load in ZM of 2.25 when I am recording on all 3 and at idle the ZM load is 1.6
When I bring up the system monitor the CPU usage shows 2 cores at 80% and 2 cores at 40%

Oh and after a few days the entire system locks up. Not even a press of the power button will show the "shutdown in 60 seconds". So I have to do a hard shutdown.

I have not added any additional software to the computer.
I have ran all updates.
The /var is setup as XFS (if that makes any difference).

I have reloaded a few times and my install is "consistent" as I keep having the same issue.
