I have found that when I have the user login option enabled n ZM, I loose the ability to view the video streams live. When I disable user logins in ZM, then I get the functionality back. I would like to have a login for some added security in terms of who can view my cameras.
Running on Ubuntu Server 10.04, using the latest .deb of zoneminder.
Live view lost when user login is enabled

security
i've posted this same reply a few times in the past, however it never hurts to say it again.
if you are exposing your dvr to the net,,,
i would do 2 things
1- use apache "basic auth" it can be done 2 ways, the easiest for me is with an htaccess file
2- install " fail2ban " after install you will have to make changes to the config file
some changes are 1- work with web access, 2- the login failure tries and
the amount of BAN time
there's lots of info on the net about this. and it's very easy with ubuntu
by the way, i'm by far no expert in security but from what i've read this does add to your security and hey... it's free
