Streaming to remote PC

Post by tdenham735 »

Hello,

I'm able to remotely view the default camera #1 via firefox or IE.

Is there a way I can save this stream too? Is there an application that can login to my website via http and view the same stream I'm seeing in the browser?

Thanks!

Not quite sure what you're trying to do.

Saving the stream would be handled by Zoneminder.

The stream it outputs is a standard mjpeg and could be handled by any other remote recording software if you wanted.

Or, with most cameras, you can just take another feed off the camera when viewing remotely to bypass ZM entirely. Just leave ZM to record and do it's thing. (Better as it reduces load on the server rather than having to feed your viewing as well)

Saving stream

Post by tdenham735 »

Thanks for the quick response...I know the stream is saved on the server, but I want to save it on a remote notebook. For example, monitoring my house, but if someone takes my server, then I will not have the stream, so I'm wondering what the best app is for saving the stream on a notebook or PC remotely while viewing.

I am able to view the stream via firefox, but not sure the best way to save the stream while I'm viewing.

Thanks:)

Remote recording software

Is there anyway to record the video stream remotely to a PC while watching the stream?

I've heard that VLC Media player can do this, but haven't been able to get that to work.

Yeah you can use the direct url of your cam and open it on VLC, then you can choose the option to save the stream.

Streaming?

Post by tdenham735 »

I tried saving, but that does not work...I can bring the page up with any browser, but VLC won't do it.

Is there a streaming mode that needs to be enabled in zoneminder?

BTW - I do not have authentication on while trying to stream to VLC...I can also see it via MediaPlayer, however I can only see a single frame. The stream apparently is not standard, but not sure how to get streaming to work.

Can you see the live stream on vlc?
Then theres an option called "save/convert" or something like that.

Can not see live stream on VLC. Options are:

Enqueue
Play
Stream
Convert

I sometimes get a single frame, but no stream. Odd...
