Recommend net cam - solved

Post by TomP »

I need to do a quick and cheep zm setup. I have a home with wireless setup that needs to be monitored quick. Can anyone recommend an ip cam that I can pickup for about $150 that is one of the preconfigured cams? I really need this to be as plug and play as possible. The plan is to use Ubuntu 10, 2.8mh Dell, 1/2g of memory, 80g hard drive.

Thanks,

Tom

Big bang for the buck. A couple of questions:

1) What make are these? I can't tell from the packaging.

2) Did you use a preconfigured cam option for these? If so, which one. if not, have did you configure zm for these cams.

Trendnet cams are pretty cheap and plug and play.

I've used a few of these with good results...

butlerm1977,
I currently have a Trendnet TV-IP100W. I have been unable to get it to work with Zoneminder. For the price, I'm happy with the quality through a browser using the the cams web server. I'd love to get 2 cams working. Have you used the TV-IP110W or TV-IP100W with Zonemider? If so, any tips you can provide would be helpful.

Tom - I just ran into your original post back in May and think your issues with this camera boil down to basic settings. Search "TV-IP100" and/or post your source tab settings to the original post. This camera has been configured to work in the past. I should let you know that I haven't used this camera but the settings seem fairly straight forward so I'll take a try to help.

BTW - What I'm getting is a black rectangle. It looks like it's the right size.

Yeah, you can hijack your own thread. Good start but there are some problems: Wireless cams usually require some type of authentication unless you have it disabled (not a good idea). On the source tab at "remote host name" line you'll need to insert your userid and password in this form <userid>:<password>@192.168.1.5 so an example entry would look like this: admin:admin@192.168.1.5; Next, your remote path needs to be shortened to just "/video.cgi". If /video.cgi doesn't work for you then try /mjpeg.cgi, or /image.cgi (usually provides slower frame rates) then try all three without the slash in front.

have look at this, suggests PCRE off: http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Conceptronic

I don't understand the "link: no", or the "half duplex" entries on the camera side, I'm guessing that isn't right if you have a connection and can see an image.

Give this a try, be patient inbetween changes so the warup frames are used up and post back

Bingo :-) :-) :-)

I changed the Remote Host Name to userid:password@192.168.1.5 and the remote path to /video.cgi. and it worked.

Thanks you very much for your help,

Please edit the title of the post to include "solved". Makes searches so much easier. Sorry I missed your May post! (and maybe post your solution to that one also).

The real answer to the posting the solution is to include FULL settings in the hardware section of the documentation like what I have in my Tue Aug 03, 2010 12:44 pm post (IMHO). I did check there before posting. IMHO the best resource this site could provide is complete settings for cams.
