Modect not triggering on anything useful

Post by BlueH2O »

I've searched forums all over the place for clues but I am stuck.. I cannot seem to get ZM to record events (useful events).. I can set the monitor to it's highest setting it seems, and go dance a jig in front of the camera, and it will not record a single frame. Yet, when a cloud passes overhead, it will happily record it for 10 seconds. What gives?

use the fast, high sensitivity preset and report back.

That's worse. I only get false alarms with that. I seem to have found some semi-useful settings:

Zone type: Active
Check method: Blobs
Min/Max pix threshold: 20/0
Filter width/heigh: 3/3
Min/Max alarmed area: 1/15
Min/Max filtered area: 1/15
Min/Max blob area: 1/15

This cuts me down from 200 false alarms per hour to about 20-50, Which is far from ideal but it's an improvement anyway.

I would assume you are using zones? Maybe you could try setting 3 zones on your cam, each with different levels of sensitivity and then "dance your jig" in each of the zones. See if that helps narrow your sensitivity settings. If that works, you will be required to post the video of your jig.

It appears from stats that pixel diff may be a good way to filter out false alarms.. But I'm confused.. does that correspond to "Min/Max Pixel Threshold (0-255)" for the zone?

Pixel threshold helps too.. but I still get more false alarms than valid ones.
