Greetings everyone,
I've been running the latest Zoneminder release from the SVN over an Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit Desktop install for a few days now, all thanks to the great deal of guidance offerred by the members of this forum and obviously the developers themselves. Here are the specs of my dedicated ZM rig, which I actually assembled from the pieces I had scattered around from my previous PCs:
MSI KT3-Ultra-ARU Motherboard with only one USB 2.0 interface
Athlon XP 1800 CPU running at stock frequency
3 Gb DDR2-400Mhz RAM
500 Gb SATA HDD for recording connected to a controller card with Ali chipset
80 Gb ATA HDD for system files
3 x Logitech C250 USB Webcams, connected to two self-powered USB2.0 hubs, interconnected with a home made 10m long CAT5-E USB extension cable. (The webcams are configured to stream at 320x240 YUVY 30fps, but they can go up to 640x480 without any problems. ALSA accepts the audio input from the cameras and can monitor the levels out-of-the-box)
After I got the system running , I've started looking for a way to integrate audio into the events recorded by ZM. There is this sound recording app which is run from the console with a bunch of parameters, called "manauton". I'm not sure whether it is still being developed but the app accepts input from X10 /dev/tty ports to start recording; or it can be set to start recording audio after a certain accoustic threshold, all with a negative latency option. The app is also able to put datestamps, record in chained mode with audio markers between subsequences.
I would like to ask if it would be possible to send some sort of an X10 trigger signal from ZM to be received by Manauton to start recording simultaneously with the event. The resulting audio file can probably be muxed with the jpeg captures recorded by ZM using an ffmpeg script for archival purposes.
A more detailed README file and the source package can be found at http://manauton.sourceforge.net/
Since don't have any coding - scripting skills, or a clear understanding of how ZM operates internally, any ideas and speculation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and best regards...
