install the live cd ZoneMinder LiveCD v1.24.1, and I had to update the kernel to version 2.6.30 to recognize my GV-800 plate.

In this version of the live cd, which set up this file, because it failed to get any pictures and I guess that's why.

Is your hardware ati or via chipset based? (GV-800 is currently not compatible with VIA series and ATI series chipset motherboards) http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/product/GV-800.htm
You can test your card output with VLC or XAWTV to make sure of the OS device settings plus this will give you clues as to ZM set up.
