Looking For Camera Suggestions

Rather than finding or asking if random cameras will work, I would like to know if anyone can please tell me what cameras work on Zoneminder right out the box? I've looked at the HCL but I would like users who've had great experiences with cameras ~$100 in price.

Do you guys have any camera suggestions for me in that price range that work with ZoneMinder?

I've bought cameras off ebay and I've not found any that don't work. I think more of a problem is the capture card you use.

Or were you thinking of USB cameras?

Hi,

I have two ipcams that are working with ZM, and their price it's below $100:

I have been using them for almost a year with no failures, both working outdoors (under a balcony), with temperatures varying from ~40 degrees Celsius to -5 degrees celsius, 24x7, no problems until now.

So if I use USB camera's I don't need a capture card, right? And if I use I.P. based camera's like the ones most are suggesting, I will need a kind of capture PCI based card, correct?

This camera doesn't require a capture card, correct? I just point the Zoneminder application to the IP of my 'remote' camera's, right? I'm getting ready to order 4 of them so any info is greatly appreciated. Want to make sure I don't need the capture card.

Hi,

No, they donÂ´t need a capture card, but their wifi connection is pretty weak, I have solved this connecting a powerline ethernet device to the camera with wifi connection problems. Apart of this, no problem!.

Thank you very much. I've got 4 of them on the way and I'll be wiring them in with Cat5e cables so I'm not too concerned about their weak signal.

What you're looking for is called an IP cam. A camera that doesn't require a capture card.

Even USB cameras, will require software/drivers on the system end to provide video.

IP Cameras have built in processors and display video/images out directly from the camera typically via a network connection.

I think everyone on here is still looking for the 'holy grail' of IP cams... something inexpensive, but works well.

So far, I've had tremendous luck with Trendnet's IP cam series. Specifically the IP100... it works outdoors, damp, cold, hot, always. The IP100 isn't PoE, but they make others in that series that are.

If you look around hard enough and watch sales, I've seen the IP100's go for about $50.

Maybe someone could post sample pictures from cameras. At under $100 I highly doubt you can get a decent quality image... For under USD 40 even the analog cameras are rubbish and then consider the cheap one's can't be anything more than an analog camera with with a digitalizer attached.

Would you mind terribly posting a image from the Trendnet IP100 camera? I would love to see the image quality for something of that price range.
