Help with 1st time setup

Post by Mad Professor »

Good day all.

While I am still on the hunt for PCI 3.3v here in the UK, I tought it would be best to setup a spare pc to try and get used to how ZoneMinder works.

For testing I am using, Intel pentium 4 @ 2.60Ghz, with 1024Mb Ram, 80Gb HDD, and a BT878a based card TV cap card.

The cameras I am going to be using are
Image
Yoko Technology Corp
RYK-2B79L2/1
Resolution:..............540 TVL.
Picture Elements:.....PAL 752x582.

For testing I will only be using one camera.

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 32Bit, ZoneMinder and Cambozola.

I would like help and advice with the basic setup.

So far I have set the following.
General
Name: Monitor-1
Source Type: Local
Function: Modect
Enabled: Ticked
Linked Monitors:
Maximum FPS:
Alarm Maximum FPS:
Reference Image Blend %ge: 7
Triggers: None available

Source
Device Path: /dev/video0
Capture Method: Video For Linux version 2
Device Channel: 1
Device Format: PAL I
Capture Palette: Grey
Capture Width (pixels):
Capture Height (pixels):
Preserve Aspect Ratio:
Orientation: Normal

Timestamp
Timestamp Label Format: %N - %y/%m/%d %H:%M:%S
Timestamp Label X: 0
Timestamp Label Y: 0

Buffers
Image Buffer Size (frames): 40
Warmup Frames: 25
Pre Event Image Count: 10
Post Event Image Count: 10
Stream Replay Image Buffer: 1000
Alarm Frame Count: 1

Misc
Event Prefix: Event-
Section length: 600
Frame Skip: 0
FPS Report Interval: 1000
Default View: Events
Default Rate: Real
Default Scale: Actual
Signal Check Colour: #0100BE
Web Colour: red

To get started with what should I enter for the Capture Width & Height, 540x405, 720x540 or 752x582, or am I totaly missing the point?

Or any other settings that need to be adjusted.

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards.

There are some pre-defined setting already built in to Zoneminder

When you enter into the setup box that you got the above information from there is a button with presets, you want to use those for the core resolution and video type, you only really need to give it a name and point it to your BT878 card and the port the camera is attached too.

You are going to have to change the channel to match whichever connector you hooked up to. Once you discover that label them. The channel you've assigned is arbitrary (channel 1) it could be 0-3 for a single chip capture card. The link you provided is for the cameras but zomeminder doesn't care (don't focus on the camera). Your capture card is the only thing ZM sees, so the output of the card is what counts (for resolution and palette). Search the forums for your card type and I'll bet you find your success.
