Web interface lockups when changing settings or options

I've got a nice basic ZoneMinder 1.24.2 setup going on Ubuntu 10.04 using the version in the repos and these instructions: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1535947

Other than one hard system crash the night after I finally got things setup enough to be useful, it seems to be working nicely since except .....

I'm experiencing seemingly random "lockups" in the web interface when changing runstate, options, or device settings. So far they have all eventually automatically cleared themselves after a some time has elapsed (at least an hour or more so far as I can tell, but I've not really tried to time it).

Any ideas?

I'm running an AMD quad core with 8GB RAM, two BT8x8 based capture cards with two cameras each, and a Kworld DVD Maker USB 2.0 2800D with a single camera for now. I plan to add more cameras and 2800D USB capture devices and maybe a pair of Netcams but the lockups when configuring are making this rather slow going. I also need to tweak the Mdetect parameters as I observe weather related "false" alarms.

I'm getting 10 fps at 320x240 per camera with cameras on the composite and S-video inputs (using a composite to S-video adaptor plug) and the system load is not an issue, good performance doing other things with it while Mdetect mode is running.
