ZoneMinder version 1.24.2
Ubuntu Lucid desktop
Remote "Storage Options" IP camera
Hello,
I am trying to get ZoneMinder to work with some remote IP cameras I have installed at a separate location. The cameras are "Storage Option" cameras, and I think they stream in mjpeg, they are compatible with firefox, IE etc and I can browse to them from any location using a variety of browsers. I know they are not in the list of compatible hardware on the wiki, but they are fairly new on the market, and I am pretty sure they will work with ZM. They require a login when accessed across the net using a browser.
I installed and setup ZoneMinder in Ubuntu lucid. I set the camera up as "remote". Under the ZM "Source panel" these are the options I chose:
Protocol = HTTP
Remote Method = SIMPLE
Remote Host Name = USER:PASSWORD@IP-OF-CAMERA
Port = 81
Remote host path = NOT SURE WHAT TO ENTER HERE (url on browsers is just IPaddress/monitor2.htm#)
However, all I get is a black screen. Under the control panel, the Function heading is orange, but the source is red. I have increased the memory available to the kernel as instructed in the wiki, but this did not work.
Can anyone suggest any changes to the path? I am sure this is where the problem lies, but I am a bit of a novice with this technology.
Thanks in advance for your help

Re: Storage Options IP night / day IP cam (SR 965)
Read the FAQ about shared memory and ensure you've changed it.
Then double check sizes and colour matches what's being produces by your camera.
If still not working, check the logs for anything that looks useful.

Thank you for replying.
I rechecked the memory settings and increased the memory. This did not change anything, the camera name is still red on the ZM console.
I rechecked the colour and size settings and tried a few different combinations to no avail.
I checked the ZM logs. zmwatch.log had the following error:
03/27/11 12:17:25.717491 zmwatch[1429].ERR [Can't get shared memory id '7a6d0002', 2: No such file or directory]
Any ideas what this means? Do I need to change some permissions?
Thanks again for your reply.

Re: Storage Options IP night / day IP cam (SR 965)
Try entering /monitor2.htm# into the field "remote host path".

Thank you for your reply.
I entered /monitor2.htm# into the path, but unfortunately this did not work either.
Having checked the settings for other cameras, you are probably on the right track - the path I am entering is probably wrong, but I am not sure what remote path to enter.

Re: Storage Options IP night / day IP cam (SR 965)
Bring the camera up in a browser, right click, properties. That should get you headed in the right direction. The shared memory error probably means there is nothing at the base address to get.
Re: Storage Options IP night / day IP cam (SR 965)
bb99, thanks for the tip.
The image is coming from <IP-ADDRESS-OF-CAMERA>/videostream.cgi
I put "/videostream.cgi" into the Remote path settings of the camera. Unfortunately this did not work either - I still get a black screen. Do I need to add anything else to the path?

Re: Storage Options IP night / day IP cam (SR 965)
Make sure the size settings for that monitor in ZM match the size that the camera is generating.
I had a black screen when the image generated was 640x480 but the monitor in ZM was set to 320x240. Once I got the size set the same, the image appeared.

Re: Storage Options IP night / day IP cam (SR 965)
robert999 - that sorted it - thanks!
Just to sumarize - I can confirm that the "Storage Options IP camera" works with Zone Minder.
The settings I used were
location username:password@cameraIP
remote path: /videostream.cgi
24bit colour
640X480
Thanks to everyone for their help.
