Streaming to VirtualBox Guest

Post by redcrayon08 »

Does it sound possible to use VLC on OS X to stream a .dv file to localhost:1234 and then have Zoneminder running on a guest with VirtualBox use that as a feed? I am able to access the host IP address from the guest but when I stream and try to pick it up with Zoneminder i get no image.

It seems like this would be possible but I don't know where to go from here. Does this sound like a transcoding thing, or a settings thing? I'm not looking for a silver bullet answer, but maybe someone has some suggestions as to what types of controls I should be messing with?

I've yet to try the .dv file while it is on the guest OS, which I will suspect will happen more easily, but its not quite what I'm trying to do.

thanks

I would think you can if the setup is correct and ZM can read your file format.
I have ZM installed in opensuse running in a VB with streaming cams with no problems.
I no that I mite not be to much help, But the first thing I would do is set a IP add. for the VB guest so it does not change on a reboot etc. I did this with my router and change VB settings to use it.
