Locking down the camera system and h.264 format

Post by Colindy »

Hey hey

I am a tech support specialist with a security camera company and i've been charged with finding a more cost effective video server for use with IP cameras. I came across ZoneMinder and am really liking the idea (might even install it at home). But i wanted to know about being able to lock the system down so that you weren't able to close ZoneMinder without a security key of some sort. Also wanted to kno about h.264 encoding support and if that was available. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

I believe the default authentication allows for view only on the web console - ie, removes the shutdown button on it so users can't disable it or the indiviudal monitors. If not, a quick edit of the php files and you can snip it out. You also have web server authentication available for more brutal on/off access to the web console.

Obviously the server can be physically isolated and locked away, remote access protected in the usual ways (ssh keys etc)

Always a risk to cabling and cameras, but proper planning can help massively there.

Excellent, I will definitely look into that. I also wanted to ask about the h.264 format and it's availability in ZoneMinder. I've looked at a few different compression forms (mpeg, mpeg4, mjpeg) and seems that h.264 is going to be our only real viable option as far as being able to store past video. Is this an option in ZoneMinder or would I have to write that in myself?
