Whats up with the socket_sendto errors? <SOLVED>

This problem has been plaguing me for a long time and through several versions of ZoneMinder. I have searched the
forum and it seems that it's not a real popular problem but it follows me through total fresh installs including a new
database. I just removed all my config files and ZoneMinder and installed a fresh copy of 1.24.4.. new database... new
config files .. totally new install and I'm still having this issue.

This issue shows itself when trying to view a captured event. Most of the times I can view the events .. sometimes while
using gapless event they will pause but start playing again .. sometimes I get a black screen saying "Time to next
event = x seconds" x usually is one or two seconds. Whether it pauses or I get the black screen... when I check my error
log I see a bunch of errors like this:

What I don't understand is why I can view some events and some give this error... Anyone have any clues? .. if you need more
information just let me know.

There is an issue when using absolute paths with deep storage enabled. The solution is to use relative path, e.g. ../../../../var/cache/zoneminder.

Turns out i didn't have it solved ... i finally solved it ...

I deleted 1.24.4, recompiled and reinstalled 1.24.3 .. thank god i had my DB backed up ...

Now it all works again ... guess its just 1.24.4 doesn't run on my Ubuntu server 10.10 system.

I didn't see any changes in 1.24.4 anyway .. maybe it has some bug fixes but for me ... the bug fixes hosed ZM
Maybe they just didn't understand the concept and added bugs instead of fixing them lol.

Either way ... 1.24.4 isn't worth installing if you have a working 1.24.3 system.

Ill just live with the occasional time outs and socket_sendto errors since 1.24.4 only makes the issues worse.

At least with 1.24.3 it will stream my events most of the time.

I know, reanimating old post, but just wanted to add my two cents. I'm on debian squeeze, been trying to use 1.24.2 coming with distro, no luck. Then tried to compile both 1.24.3. and 1.24.4. I've been banging my head against the wall (ok, computer screen) for the last two days to make it working. Hope my findings will help someone else.

OK so basically one of the errors that i experienced was this socket_sendto stuff when trying to watch monitors. Blank screens and logs full of socket_sendto errors. Then after two days I checked Apache and realised that cgi module is not loaded. Do'oh! Guys you need to make sure that Apache is actually able to execute cgi scripts! Probably it is somewhere is the docs but but well who reads that? Definitely not me

It would be nice to have something like this in the FAQ, for dumb people like me experiencing this error:

a2enmod
enter `cgi`
apache2ctl graceful

And oh Lord, I can now see my monitors! Hallelujah!

Well at least some of them. The problem that I didn't resolve yet is using Zoneminder with USB cams, I've got two of them, both working OK with cheese, cannot make them work with Zoneminder, even though aparently it has been fixed in 1.24.4. But I will write about this in another thread on this forum.

Most USB UVC cameras use the JPEG or MJPEG capture palette, which ZoneMinder does not support at this moment. I have a big patch that also adds support for the JPEG and MJPEG capture palettes. Its located in the "User contributions" forum in case you want to check it out.
