Garbled image through capture card - resolved

Post by DiscoMoo »

I am getting a garbled image through my capture card on a Monoprice camera. At this point I am wondering if this is a configuration issue or a hardware / wiring issue and am hoping to get some pointers as regards troubleshooting.

I am running 1.24.2 with the following card: 02:01.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11)

Code: Select all

[ 31.474728] bttv: driver version 0.9.18 loaded
[ 31.474734] bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture
[ 31.475121] bttv: Bt8xx card found (0).
[   31.475163] bttv 0000:02:01.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
[ 31.475178] bttv0: Bt878 (rev 17) at 0000:02:01.0, irq: 22, latency: 64, mmio: 0xf8001000
[ 31.488229] bttv0: using: *** UNKNOWN/GENERIC *** [card=0,autodetected]
[ 31.488294] bttv0: gpio: en=00000000, out=00000000 in=00f36fff [init]
[ 37.944050] bttv0: tuner type unset
[ 37.944446] bttv0: registered device video0
[ 37.944621] bttv0: registered device vbi0
I cannot use links as a new user but the camera is Monoprice camera: 6644
Viewable length @ 0 lux illumination: 35 meters
Viewing radius: 36 - 134 degrees (adjustable, wide - tele)
Image sensor: 1/3" interline transfer type color CCD (Sony)
Effective pixels: 768H x 494V (380k pixels)
Scanning system: 525 lines, 2:1 interlace
Scanning frequency: 15.734KHz (H), 59.94Hz (V)
Resolution: 600TVL (Color), 640TVL (B/W)
Shutter speed: 1/60 ~ 1/10,000 sec

The camera is connected to a bnc/power balun to a CAT6 cable and into the port in the capture card.

The monitor settings are as follows
Max FPS: 5
Reference Image Blend %age 7
Device path: /dev/video0
Capture method: Video for Linux version 2
Device Channel: 2
Device format: NTSC
Capture Palette: YUV422P
Width: 640
Height: 480

And finally and most importantly - the monitor image is attached. The bands move up and down.

I have tried changing all of the monitor settings and difference channels. The function and source columns are both in orange.

Like I mentioned it would be great to get some pointers towards a hardware or software issue.

Thanks in advance for any help, I appreciate it!

OK, looks like this was a bad/intermittent connection on one of the CAT6 wires, tested with a network tester. Was fine before I put it in, something obviously got jangled when I pulled the wire.

All is well now. Can confirm that the above setup works!
