Kodicom4400R - Newbie

Post by nerwin »

I should start by saying I am a bit of a linux newbie...

I have followed the various FAQ's, and have zoneminder up and running somewhat on ubuntu 11.04

I cant seem to get display in ZM from my Kodicom4400R card. I can in xawtv, but no matter what I try, nothing in ZM but a black screen.

Also the source is red, which indicates a problem ?

Thanks for any help,
Norm

So you're down to source tab settings. Try these and be mindful that your card doesn't use channels the same way as most so you'll have to play:

I have now tried every possible setting, and still no picture.. just a black screen, and the source in RED.

xawtv works consistently (But in black and white). I have turned on logging, but no real logs are generated, so I think I didn't do that correctly.

Xawtv does give an error:

WARNING: No DGA direct video mode for this display.
WARNING: couldn't find framebuffer base address, try manual configuration
V4l2: WARNING: framebuffer base address mismatch

Does your bttv.conf read like this:
options bttv gbuffers=16 card=133,132,133,133 chroma_agc=1

Indeed it does.. I just added the chroma at the end and now i have color.

Here is the wierd thing, if I go into xawtv, check that the camera is working (I have to sudo it or i get a permissions error if zoneminder is running), then close it, and restart zoneminder, it works...

ALthough this now lets me play with zoneminder, this wouldnt be good for long term, as I would have to do it at every reboot.

Not sure if this helps point out what could be wrong, but its at least a temp workaround.

Ok, maybe I am just impatient.. when it boots it comes up red, but it seems to go green itself in about 30/60 seconds.. not sure if this is normal ?

But I am up and running.. thanks for the help so far bb99.. I am sure I will have more issues.. I had a mootools.js issue that I already fixed with the help of a forum post..

ZM has to burn through the warm up frames (set in the buffer tab of monitor) before it'll show good, sorry I didn't mention the be patient part of troubleshooting camera and card settings. Seems like 30-60 seconds is a little long though.
