Can't edit zones

Just finished setting up ZM 1.24.2 with ubuntu 11.04 server. Everything is fine, except I can't edit the zones. The camera shot is displayed when I go into the zone edit window but with a single zone defined with no editable points. I cannot add or edit any points on a zone. there is a single point in the upper left corner. but i can't edit or move it.

Anybody have any ideas??
