Sorry is that was proposed already, but I couldn't find anything like that.
Suppose that an PTZ system can be controlled automatically (lot of PTZ cam have a "scan" function, means they're continuously moving around).
Would it be possible to develop a stitching alogrithm so that the acquired reference picture would correspond to the whole solid angle the camera can see, and then define zones at any place in that solid angle?
If it's not clear, let's take an example:
suppose we have a camera than can go left and right. On its left, there's a sofa, in the center, a door, and when it's rotating right, it sees a furniture. When the camera sees the sofa, it doesn't see the door nor the furniture, etc.
A reference picture would consist of assembling in one panorama the sofa, the door, and the furniture all together.
Then we can define for example the furniture and the door as sensitive zones.
The motion detection could be used together with an automatic continuous scan from left to right, and trigger a record system if it sees something changed at the door or in front of the furniture.
The right next step would be of course to stop scanning and stay on the moving object (ideally, even tracking it as its moves around).
