Development inquiry for cloud based application

Post by campro »

Our company is considering a plan to run ZoneMinder on Linux servers in our cloud infrastructure, which remotely manage the IP Cameras installed at customers' sites. The customer sites will be connected to the ZoneMinder server via Internet.

The challenge of such plan is we don't want our customers to worry about the settings of router,firewall and cameras.
We hope to deliver a package of router(including ADSL modem) and IP cameras to customers, which can work out of box immediately. In order to support such Plug&Play mode, we think normal approach such as UPnP may not be sufficient.

The concerns we have with UPnP are
1. UPnP compatibility and stability
2. UPnP still requires port configuration in the cameras if multiple cameras need to be installed behind one router

As such, we are wondering if there is a way for ZoneMinder to recommend a solution whereby;
1. All handshake sessions between the camera and the server are initiated by the camera on a private LAN by means of address translation
2. There is no requirement for inbound NAT (even if UPnP is used)

Our ultimate solution is for camera to register with the server and with NO changes to firewall and camera.

Appreciate any opinion and comments to the feasibility of this.

Our company is willing to enter into commercial partnership with ZoneMinder's development team.
