zoneminder 1.24.4 on Ubuntu Server 11.10 lamp/openssh install
Installed zoneminder using apt-get and the install appeared to go fine. It took care of 99% of the install and I just had to follow the few additional steps to get the GUI up. All monitors that I set up in zoneminder are functioning fine except PTZ control for two Trendnet IPV400's. I also have an Ubiquiti Aircam and a Trendnet IPV110 that work fine. total of 4 cams.
Extra Debug level set to 5 and the logs in /tmp and /var/log show no errors.
When I use a direction arrow, /var/logs/syslog shows only that the driver is in use by zmcontrol:
Dec 9 12:44:17 NVRcam zmcontrol[14116]: INF [Starting control server 2/TVIP400]
Dec 9 12:44:17 NVRcam zmcontrol[14120]: INF [Control server 2/TVIP400 starting at 11/12/09 12:44:17]
but no movement
Control movement of the two Trendnets work fine when using the WebGUI. Followed sfpeter's instructions to the tee for installing these Trendnets. In fact I had the Trendnet PTZ working fine on the same machine using Ubuntu 10.04 and zoneminder 1.24.2. **
All the Trendnet setup/settings match. I've also tried moving the cam around from the command line while watching the logs:
'sudo zmcontrol.pl --id 2 --command=moveRelLeft'
Logs show same as above, no errors and nothing moves at the cam.
If I at least had something showing up in any of the logs when I click the direction arrows, I could bite down on it and figure out (my screw up) and apply a fix. Anyone who has an idea of steps I could take, things to try, or anything to isolate or fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.
My only recollection of my previous Trendnet zoneminder setup is that I did struggle to get PTZ working. But back then, I had log messages to assist me. And previously, I'm pretty sure the fix was getting the driver file name to match the monitor setup and I vaguely recall there might have been a permission (chmod), or ownership setting I needed to make to allow PTZ to work.
**I felt it necessary to replace the OS with the latest version and upgrade zoneminder to 1.24.4 to make sure the Ubiquiti Aircam I just bought would work. I could not get the Aircam to work in 1.24.2. But as it turned out that's probably because when I was using 1.24.2 I did not get the height/width settings to match the rtsp channel. Once I figured that out, I could have stayed with what I had and those Trendnet's would still be working.

I'm seeing the same issues with PZT not working and nothing in the error logs also. For a laugh you can read my post on my FoscamFI8918W.
Might be doing a new linux install this weekend with centos or another flavor to see if that fixes the issue. Maybe something with the latest Ubuntu is causing this?

I had read your post and agree it might be OS related. Also, I may try Ubuntu Server 10 .04 this weekend.jacknunyo wrote:I'm seeing the same issues with PZT not working and nothing in the error logs also. For a laugh you can read my post on my FoscamFI8918W.

But it sure would be nice to know somewhere I could look at communication or handshaking between linux and the cam that would expose the mystery. Or simply have a guru read my post and reply with the magic chmod command I was hoping for.
Re: no PTZ on Trendnet IPV400 AND no errors showing up in lo
Yeah, I thought it might be a permission problem too, the instructions I used said it should be 755. But I tried 777 just to cover all the bases. I cant imagine it being an issue with the file ownership, but maybe.
Ps -aux shows all the zm related processes running as either root or www-data. The file is already owned by root, so i chown'd it to www-data:www-data. No luck. Behaves the same.
And please report back if/when you try 10.04!

Re: no PTZ on Trendnet IPV400 AND no errors showing up in lo
Putting Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS with ZoneMinder 1.24.2 allows me to get PTZ control back for the Trendnets. But of course the Ubiquiti Aircam will not display. The Aircam appears to be capturing from the logs but it also throws up a ton of errors and the display is either missing or only displays like it has a vertical sync issue. I did get it to display for a moment but when I re-saved the monitor it went garbled again and displays errors in the logs. But I guess that's for another forum post yet to come.

Re: no PTZ on Trendnet IPV400 AND no errors showing up in lo
I have it (Ubiquiti Aircam) working using zm1.24.2, Ubuntu 10.04 - configured as follows:Classic wrote:Davis..some solutions for:"unable to open input rtsp:" ? thanks in advance.
Monitor
General tab: source type= Ffmpeg
Source tab: Source Path= rtsp://192.168.1.123:554/live/ch01_0
width 640
height 480
set the frame rate to whatever your zm box can handle.
all others at defaults values
To test outside of zm, on any machine, download Video LAN VLC viewer and use the same rtsp source path in the 'Open network stream' of VLC.

I too have the same problem using ZM 1.24.4 and Ubuntu 11.10.
Anyone got this fixed?

The solutions is: resolution=640X368 not 480.
For high resolution, you need more shared memory, and work well...
