Still image IP camera as monitor - is it possible?

Post by zumbarotinus »

Hello!
I have a fresh installation of zoneminder 1.24.2 on a Ubuntu box and it seems to be working perfectly.

However, when I try to setup my IP camera to work as a monitor nothing seems to happen. It just doesn't provide any images.

My IP camera works by providing me with a new image.jpg each time I send a request to its ip address. Maybe I'm missing something on zoneminder's docs, but I couldn't find out whether what I'm trying to achieve is even possible. Is it?

My monitor source configurations stand like these:

Remote Protocol : HTTP
Remote Method : Simple
Remote Host Name : user:pass@200.200.200.200
Remote Host Port : 3030
Remote Host Path : /image.jpg
Remote Image Colours : 24 bit colour
Capture Width (pixels) : 640
Capture Height (pixels) : 480
Preserve Aspect Ratio :
Orientation: Normal

Any help will be greatly appreciated :]

Regards,

Also read the wiki about shared memory, that will need doing or it won't work.

Thank you guys for the prompt answer!

It's kind of a particular situation where I have no access to the physical location of the camera and I have limited access to it's configuration settings, so I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of hardware it is.

Given this situation, I'm trying to setup a generic solution for using still jpegs regardless of their source, provided that at each request to a given URL will give me a new still jpeg file.

Is there a way to make it work?

Thanks,

Blind men walk every day. Bring up the camera in a browser (the following is for Firefox), right click on image and select view image source. Note the url, path and image size, this will give you an idea for setting up the monitor. Use mocord and set the frame rate to .1 (1 frame every ten seconds). I can't give you a step by step without camera info. Good luck

Thanks for your help, bb99!

Turns out the problem was related to shared memory configs. Everything is top notch now!

Cheers!
