Hardware/equipment needed for wireless video surveillance

Post by madapaka »

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to zoneminder and the whole video surveillance thing, basically here's what we want to happen. We're going to monitor a warehouse that is around 2 hectares big using wireless ip cameras, what equipment do we need aside from the obvious wireless ip cameras and wireless access points? For example, if we're going to deploy 50 wireless ip cameras (fixed outdoor type), how many access points do we need? Do we still need an NVR aside from the Zoneminder server (we want the ability to record and the ability to view recorded videos and live streams? What other hardware do we need to set this up?

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Indeed a big project.

I would think you'd need a few triple core pc's( or more powerful) with multiple video cards up to 16 video in lines each. They have linux proven working types here somewere .

Get the distro you like for a single trial server , config it , get it working

then setup as many more as you need , oh yea wired ip cams have better quailty pictures than wireless kind .

Spec out a single server first ! good luck
