webcam not working [fixed]

Post by deathguppie »

I have a logitech usb webcam I am trying to test zoneminder with, the camera works, but does not show up in zoneminder.
here is the last few lines of zmdc.log

Code: Select all

12/06/11 06:42:49.089638 zmdc[1438].INF [Starting pending process, zmc -d /dev/video0]
12/06/11 06:42:49.091405 zmdc[1438].INF ['zmc -d /dev/video0' starting at 11/12/06 06:42:49, pid = 1762]

12/06/11 06:43:00.034410 zmdc[1438].INF ['zmc -d /dev/video' starting at 11/12/06 06:43:00, pid = 1772]

12/06/11 06:45:34.313151 zmdc[1438].INF ['zmfilter.pl ' exited, signal 14]
12/06/11 06:45:34.313645 zmdc[1438].INF ['zmaudit.pl -c' exited, signal 14]

12/06/11 06:45:34.318364 zmdc[1438].INF ['zmwatch.pl ' stopping at 11/12/06 06:45:34]
12/06/11 06:45:34.320333 zmdc[1438].INF ['zmwatch.pl ' exited, signal 14]
This is the part I figure is wrong in zmwatch.log

Code: Select all

12/05/11 20:34:32.371533 zmwatch[1479].ERR [Can't open memory map file '/dev/shm/zm.mmap.2': No such file or directory]
I found a reference to the issue on the web.
zoneminder package not ready to use /run
But it looks as if /run/shm already exists, owned by root with some pulse audio usage. ..
How do I fix this issue?

Do you have the mode set to PAL ? My Logitech orbit will only work when set to PAL and does not when set to NTSC.

so I set the buffer size and alert image size to low values to see if that would help .. restarted zoneminder and get this

Code: Select all

ok.. wow.. I've tried 3 different cameras, all of them work with xawtv and nothing.

I'm starting to realize that zoneminder for all practical purposes simply does not work. Perl is a deep well as it is, and trying to figure out why it isn't working is turning out to be almost impossible. Memory is not mapping that much I can see.. but why?

No help and running out of things to try..

Figured it out. The problem was that the ubuntu package does not install perl mmap. (though it claims to) that must be done by hand. Also since I had configured the cameras prior to having mmap installed, I had to delete the existing monitors and start over before they started working.

22/02/12 22:26:47.230944 zmdc[18088].INF ['zmfilter.pl ' exited, signal 14]

and also

2/02/12 21:47:27.752103 zmwatch[30527].ERR [Can't open memory map file '/dev/shm/zm.mmap.5': No such file or directory]
22/02/12 21:47:37.753523 zmwatch[30527].ERR [Can't open memory map file '/dev/shm/zm.mmap.5': No such file or directory]

22/02/12 21:47:57.756510 zmwatch[30527].ERR [Can't open memory map file '/dev/shm/zm.mmap.5': No such file or directory]
22/02/12 22:26:37.978672 zmwatch[18124].INF [Watchdog starting]

What is the actual package missing? I've tried looking for perl-mmap but it doesn't exist.
