zmfilter.pl ' exited abnormally, exit status 9

Post by teraquad »

Hi

I am having trouble getting my filters working. From examples posted here, I am pretty sure i have set them up properly. I do notice the error in the zmdc.log file. I was wondering if it rings a bell for someone who could help me out. I am running ver 1.24.4 and have 3 ip cams whitch all work well.

When i attempt to use a filter, ZM will collect the proper events and i can manually delete them. But there is no automatic action. I have to manualy arcive, delete, etc the target events. I am sure the filters are marked to run automaticly. Any way, I am at the end of my rope so to speak.

I have deleted and reinstalled zoneminder, Deleted and installed perl. Actually a number of times hoping to reset anything that could be causing my problem. But it has not worked. I am open to any input as i am having to delete everything by hand.

I would even be happy to hear that it is operator error!

Thanks again!

I was facing that too. It started after I created filter that uploads events to my ftp server.
I noticed that even deleting "upload" filter did not help. But after I unticked "should zoneminder support uploading events from filters" in options, it started working again. Maybe I have something wrong in ftp settings, I haven't have time to investigate it yet.

Thanks for the reply.

I still haven't had any luck finding the problem. I am at the point that i am ready to reinstall fedora 16 and reinstall zoneminder Hoping that that will help. Thanks for the info about the filters, I think i will try and delete them before i take such a drastic step.

Thanks again!

I also noticed that if I enable email sending in options, it also causes zmfilter to fail.

You can debug it running zmfilter.pl from command line. Just find binary first. It is in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin.

For me it whines about perl zip componen, what guided me to investigate it. I changed UPLOAD_ARCH_FORMAT to "tar", and ftp started to work.

Note that enabling those will cause zmfilter to fail, regasrdless if any filter is using them or not.

by the way;

You maybe want also repair/optimize mysql tables. For me it caused strange behavior. Power failure or something had messed my tables. It luckily has happened only once.

Generally, I think zm is very robust software. It hasn't never crashed for me.

Well,

I am still working on the error. Not being familiar with SQL is my biggest problem right now, so i am looking into that with an eye toward cleaning up the database. I did have a power failure recently so that could well be my problem. I will post any progress here.

Thanks again for the info.

:oops: Hi,

I have attempted to follow the advice given above with little results. There is much i dont follow. It has to be something simple that i am overlooking. I have reinstalled everything, sql, cameras, ffmpg, and the problem remains. Am i expecting the wrong thing?

I think that when setup properly, a filter should wake up at the preset interval and delete or archive or preform an action on the target events automaticly and then repeat indefinitely.

What i am seeing is that, When i leave it alone, nothing happens. If i submit or execute the filter then it selects the right events but does nothing further on it's own. I can delete the events by checking all the boxes and hitting delete. but i don't think that is how it supposed work.

I have attached my log files. Any help will be appriceated.

Thanks!

A common exit error when you enable the upload function is that the perl module it is trying to load does not exist.
In this case it is Net::FTP.

Make sure you have that installed and that the path is picked up in perl.

Code: Select all

perl -MNet::FTP -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
If you see "Module installed." then you have it. If you see any other error then something is wrong with perl or that specific module.

Make sure your FTP settings tab is filled in correctly and has no weird characters. It is possible that your password contains some odd characters that are not being
interpreted correctly. If you use any funky characters, try changing it to something simple with letters and numbers and see if that helps.

If you are interested in throttling your upload speed you may want to read my post here:

Thanks for the reply, clear concise and to the point. I performed the test and received the module installed response. I turned FTP on and off with the same results as before. I am one step further along. Thank you very much for the reply. it was helpfull.

I guess my next procedure would be to see what you enabled in that filter. Is it upload only or are you using other methods as well such as email?

Then we need to see what you are requiring from your system to make sure you have what you need. In your FTP options tab did you specify zip or tar?

If Zip

Code: Select all

perl -MArchive::Zip -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
If Tar

Code: Select all

perl -MArchive::Tar -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
If you enabled email

Code: Select all

perl -MMIME::Lite -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
perl -MNet::SMTP -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
perl -MMIME::Entity -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
Default requirements:

Code: Select all

perl -MTime::HiRes -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
perl -MDate::Manip -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
perl -MGetopt::Long -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
perl -MData::Dumper -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
All of the above should be installed. If they are, make sure you have all your required settings filled in properly for zoneminder.

It is not my intention to E-mail or FTP any information, though it is possible i have inadvertently set something to do so. That being said the information you have requested is as follows.

Code: Select all

[root@ZoneMinder ~]# perl -MArchive::Zip -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
Module installed.
[root@ZoneMinder ~]#

Code: Select all

[root@ZoneMinder ~]# perl -MArchive::Tar -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
Module installed.
[root@ZoneMinder ~]#

Code: Select all

[root@ZoneMinder ~]#
[root@ZoneMinder ~]# perl -MMIME::Lite -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
Module installed.
[root@ZoneMinder ~]# perl -MNet::SMTP -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
Module installed.
[root@ZoneMinder ~]# perl -MMIME::Entity -e "print \"Module installed.\\n\";"
Module installed.
[root@ZoneMinder ~]#

The event filter is set as

Date/Time less than now
sort by Date/Time Asc Limit to first 5
archive all matches
execute ^g

The ^g being the bell.

I have executed this filter in both submit and execute but it only returns the 5 items but preforms no action on them either automaticly or otherwise.

Thanks Again!

Okay so you are only trying to archive the events.

Most of my previous information was related to FTP/Email but it did have you check for a couple modules for Archival.

First things first. Is your zm.conf file correct? Located at /etc/zm/zm.conf
You will want to look for:
ZM_DB_HOST
ZM_DB_USER
ZM_DB_PASS

It almost sounds like you installed ZoneMinder but maybe did not get the MySQL part installed or completed. Did you install MySQL when you first installed ZoneMinder and did you create the base table schema from the provided SQL file?

So now you have the above variables in mind, are you running MySQL? I have mysqld running as you can see below. If you do not have a mysql process running then that is the start of your problem.

Code: Select all

root@mythtv:/etc/zm# ps aux |grep mysql
mysql     1196  0.3  1.3 316808 54000 ?        Ssl  Apr02  61:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld
root     23824  0.0  0.0   7976   884 pts/0    S+   13:11   0:00 grep --color=auto mysql
root@mythtv:/etc/zm#
If MySQL is running. We want to use the parameters listed at the top of this post to verify your connection.
Your ZM_DB_HOST is likely (or should be) localhost.
Your ZM_DB_USER is most likely zm
Your password should have been set by you.

So let's try a connection with that information. It *SHOULD* prompt for a password and that password *SHOULD* be what you have for your ZM_DB_PASS variable.

Code: Select all

root@mythtv:/etc/zm# mysql -u zm -p
Enter password:
If you did not see the above or are unable to connect, then there is your problem.

If you do connect successfully, you could run a test query to make sure you have access to the database.

Code: Select all

mysql> use zm; (THIS WILL SELECT THE ZoneMinder DATABASE)
Reading table information for completion of table and column names
You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A

Database changed
Now lets do a couple read tests. This one will test reading the entire events table. If this does not work then you have an issue with permissions.
(THIS WILL LIST *EVERYTHING* IN THE EVENTS TABLE. YOU SHOULD SEE ***LOTS*** -- PROBABLY 2 ROWS PER EVERY EVENT)

Code: Select all

mysql> select * from Events;
If the above command worked and listed all of your events, then you have read permission -- GOOD! Now see if your system has ever set an event as archived.
(THIS WILL LIST ALL ARCHIVED EVENTS TO SEE IF YOUR SYSTEM HAS EVER SET THE ARCHIVED FLAG TO ANY EVENT).

Code: Select all

mysql> select * from Events where Archived=1;
If the above command worked then you need to test write permissions. Let's select a single event to play with. From your zoneminder website pick an event number and lets see what is set for it. In my case I chose event id 100.
Not sure how this will look when I post but under the Archived column (this is the number after the value 13 column) this event lists that value as 0 -- meaning it has not been archived.

Code: Select all

mysql> select * from Events where Id=100;
+-----+-----------+-----------+--------+---------------------+---------------------+-------+--------+--------+--------+-------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+---------+----------+---------+----------+----------+-------------+
| Id  | MonitorId | Name      | Cause  | StartTime           | EndTime             | Width | Height | Length | Frames | AlarmFrames | TotScore | AvgScore | MaxScore | Archived | Videoed | Uploaded | Emailed | Messaged | Executed | Notes       |
+-----+-----------+-----------+--------+---------------------+---------------------+-------+--------+--------+--------+-------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+---------+----------+---------+----------+----------+-------------+
| 100 |         1 | Event-100 | Motion | 2012-03-16 15:40:37 | 2012-03-16 15:40:42 |   640 |    480 |   4.61 |     26 |           6 |       65 |       10 |       13 |        0 |       0 |        1 |       0 |        0 |        0 | Motion: All |
+-----+-----------+-----------+--------+---------------------+---------------------+-------+--------+--------+--------+-------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+---------+----------+---------+----------+----------+-------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql>
So now let's set event id 100 as archived. I get a response back saying the row is changed -- meaning my write was successful!

Code: Select all

mysql> update Events set Archived=1 where Id=100;
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
Rows matched: 1  Changed: 1  Warnings: 0

mysql>
We can look now and see the value for the Archived column is now 1 -- meaning that event has been archived (but not really in our case -- we are just testing the write permission)
The column is just after the 13 value. It is now 1.

Code: Select all

mysql> select * from Events where Id=100;
+-----+-----------+-----------+--------+---------------------+---------------------+-------+--------+--------+--------+-------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+---------+----------+---------+----------+----------+-------------+
| Id  | MonitorId | Name      | Cause  | StartTime           | EndTime             | Width | Height | Length | Frames | AlarmFrames | TotScore | AvgScore | MaxScore | Archived | Videoed | Uploaded | Emailed | Messaged | Executed | Notes       |
+-----+-----------+-----------+--------+---------------------+---------------------+-------+--------+--------+--------+-------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+---------+----------+---------+----------+----------+-------------+
| 100 |         1 | Event-100 | Motion | 2012-03-16 15:40:37 | 2012-03-16 15:40:42 |   640 |    480 |   4.61 |     26 |           6 |       65 |       10 |       13 |        1 |       0 |        1 |       0 |        0 |        0 | Motion: All |
+-----+-----------+-----------+--------+---------------------+---------------------+-------+--------+--------+--------+-------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+---------+----------+---------+----------+----------+-------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql>
If the above write test worked, let us change that value back to 0 if that is were it was beforehand.

Code: Select all

mysql> update Events set Archived=0 where Id=100;
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
Rows matched: 1  Changed: 1  Warnings: 0

mysql> quit;
Bye
If everything above worked, then something else is strangely wrong. I suspect at some point in the above you will have an issue -- that is where you will want to look.

1) Make sure MySQL is installed
2) Make sure MySQL is RUNNING.
3) Make sure you have created the zoneminder table with the default schema file.
4) Make sure you created a user and password in MySQL for zoneminder.
5) Make sure you can connect to MySQL using that login and password.
6) Make sure that login can read/write to the zoneminder table
7) Make sure the /etc/zm/zm.conf file correctly lists the MySQL information for your zoneminder account.

If everything above worked, then something else is strangely wrong. I suspect at some point in the above you will have an issue -- that is where you will want to look.

1) Make sure MySQL is installed (** yes **)
2) Make sure MySQL is RUNNING. (** yes **)
3) Make sure you have created the zoneminder table with the default schema file. (** unsure **) Don't know what schema file is??
4) Make sure you created a user and password in MySQL for zoneminder. (** yes **)
5) Make sure you can connect to MySQL using that login and password. (** yes **)
6) Make sure that login can read/write to the zoneminder table (** yes **)
7) Make sure the /etc/zm/zm.conf file correctly lists the MySQL information for your zoneminder account. (** location ? **) The location is /etc/zm.conf
