I am currently running a ZM 1.24 setup, running on Ubuntu server with 4 Foscam FI8918E cameras running though a PoE switch. The system is set up in a volunteer fire company and is mainly focused on the entrances, truck room, gear lockers and the meeting room (the only areas that would have any equipment worth of value). Everything seems to be working well, the cameras are set up and I have the control functions working.
I have one issue right now which is frustrating me (as if I wasn't frustrated enough getting everything else working).
I have the cameras set to motion detection, but they seem to be recording solid blocks of nothing happening for around 600 seconds at a time. They do this all day whether there is motion or not. I tried playing around with settings and zones, but nothing seems to have fixed the issue. Am I missing some very important concept with the zones or some simple setting somewhere? All of this useless video is filling up the hard drive rather quickly and it makes it hard to find any events that would be of interest.
Any ideas on what is happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll have a lot of time to work on the system this weekend and I hope to have it running perfectly by Sunday. I volunteered a ton of time (and a lot of my own money and equipment) into this project and I just want it finished.

Re: Motion detection issues
Are you using the cameras in Modect or Mocord? Read this to know the differences.

After more than 15 years, no longer using ZM as surveillance system.
Now in the dark side, using a commercial system...
