Error: expected 328, got 316
Hi all,
Thanks for your help in advance. I have set up a new Ubuntu 12.04 system running Zoneminder 1.25.0. I have a 16 channel, 8 chip BT878 card which is detected by the system. I am able to add monitors (have added from video0 to video7, assuming the remaining 8 will be accessible by using channels). I get black screens with time stamps for all monitors.
I would like to replace the current XP CCTV system with Zoneminder as it served me well in the past.
I am not sure if the errors below from the log are the cause:

Thanks PacoLM,
That solved those errors, however, I am still not able to get a feed from any of my monitors, only a black screen with time stamp.
Should I start a new thread for this? It does take a while for all /dev/video devices to be available. A snippet of the log is below.

Re: Error: expected 328, got 316
In order to debug the system, only enable one monitor and disable (not delete) the rest. Once you get the feed from one camera it's easier to get all.
Try lowering the FPS for all cameras to don't overload the system. Once it's working you could increase it again.
Worth to try: Uncheck V4L_MULTI_BUFFER and set CAPTURES_PER_FRAME to 2
Also, check you shared memory settings (if you are using it): http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... ory#p72552
Post results, hope it helps!

After more than 15 years, no longer using ZM as surveillance system.
Now in the dark side, using a commercial system...
Re: Error: expected 328, got 316
System is up to date, but still the same issue. Any further suggestions?
Re: Error: expected 328, got 316
I assume that xawtv doesn't get any picture either.
It might be that your system isn't detecting the correct video card. You should be able to see what card it is using by looking at the output from dmesg.

Re: Error: expected 328, got 316
It is identifying your card as an IVC-200 (card number 102). Have you checked the documentation that came with your card to verify that this is correct?
I see from the original post that each BT878 handles 2 video channels. Have you tried different device channel numbers? I have come across one card that didn't start the device channel numbering at 0.
The only other thing I can see is this;

which I have no idea whether it is a problem or not but you might try searching hardware forums to find out if it is.[ 368.108235] bt878 #7 [sw]: bus seems to be busy (scl=0, sda=0)
Re: Error: expected 328, got 316
I have tried the video channels up to about 20 (there are 32) and got the same result. I will try them all tomorrow.
I am not sure what video card is installed as the PC came with the card installed and no supporting documents. Windows XP also recognises the card with the generic driver so I do not think I am able to get any more info from there.
Would the card physically have any info printed on it?

It is possible the card might have something on it to allow you to identify it. Have a look see what you can find.
