Hello all! As a forewarn, I am brand new to using Zoneminder. Please excuse my newbieness and hello to you all. Thanks in advance.


I have (2) ACTi E11 network cameras that are configured to run using static IPs inside the office, over a local network, using RTP on port 7070.

I have successfully accessed these cameras using the url "rtsp://admin:xxxx@192.168.xxx.xxx:7070" using VLC Media Player, so they are verified working.

I am running Zoneminder 1.25.0 on Ubuntu 12.04 as a guest on VirtualBox, which is also on Ubuntu 12.04. On both, iptables are disabled.

My problem is simple. I try to add the camera as a remote host and when I attempt to view the monitor is comes back as "idle" with 0fps.

Is there a log I should be looking at for more insight?
Does anyone have a straightforward template for adding these cameras to zoneminder over rtsp?

Try using ffmpeg as the source instead of remote.
